How Satan Uses People to Set Traps for You!

(ver 1.3) A trap is the hidden trick of an enemy to take you captive or prisoner. To trap wild animals, some have used a spring like device that usually has a concealed danger with an enticing lure or some type of tempting bait.  Many times people would dig a big hole in the ground and cover it with branches and leaves so that others do not recognize the pit fall dangers as they travel in that area. People have walked down this path being unfamiliar with the danger and many have fallen into it and were caught. Whether you realize it or not, you are walking down a figurative trail in life and Satan has placed many concealed traps in your path in order to take you captive. We must learn to recognize these potential traps.  In order to do this I believe that we need to become familiar with the examples found in the Bible of what Satan has used on other people.  Only by learning and studying the devices and methods of our spiritual enemy, can we even begin to become familiar with the certain impending traps that will be presented to us.  Only when we learn to recognize the traps can we learn how to avoid them.

Job 18:10  The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

While natural traps are hidden dangers to your physical well being, spiritual traps are hidden pitfalls that are intended for your spiritual harm.  Since Satan is not physically present in this world (at least until the anti-christ is revealed) and it is illegal for him to be in physical manifestation to harm you, he has adapted and changed up his attack and trap methods.  Satan uses physical people in the world to set traps for other people.  Satan works very hard to deceive everyone, but many times he concentrates on a select few which are easier to be deceived.  These types of easy targets are usually the most ignorant of the truth found in God’s word.   Satan then traps them into believing his lies and then uses them to deceive the others through their enticing baited words of partial truths.  Let’s go through an example of this in the Bible:

Exo 23:33  They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

Here we have a great example of the deceived people on the earth deceiving God’s people.  Many people have been deceived into believing that God has provided many religions and many paths that lead us to Him.  However, God did not EVER say this, this was only man’s reasoning based upon them buying into Satan’s deception.  Just because many religions exist in the world today does not mean that God started them, God endorses them, God accepts them or God subscribes to them.  That is just a common planned trap of the enemy.  Flood the world with the false to counter the True from God.  In this verse in Exodus God warns the Nation of Israel that these foreign gods found within the other nations they encountered would become a “snare” to them.  In other words this snare was another technique of their enemy to take them captive.  By serving their false gods, God’s people would be deceived from knowing the truth and even depart from it.  By serving the false, they would be led captive away from their true living God.  So evidently every religion is not the right way to God!  Clearly God was warning His people that these people did not know Him or His ways but were put there to be traps for them.   God was clearly revealing the methods of entrapment and this information can still be applicable to us today in the church.  Let’s take a look at another verse in Exodus:

Exo 34:12  Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

By associating with the wrong people and joining themselves together as one nation, God informs Israel that if they were not careful to avoid this, they would again become trapped into a situation that they do not want to be in.  This is again speaking of a spiritual snare, a trap that the enemy has presented them using natural people.  These people since they are not God’s covenant people would present themselves as friendly and introduce them to new ideas, concepts and things that God declares would become a trap to deceive them.  This is a spiritual principle and a method that Satan still uses today with Christians.  Become friends with the wrong people, hang around the wrong people long enough, and what they do and what they say will eventually become what you do and what you say.  The bad influences in life will always drag you down to their level and you will not be able to pull them up to your level so beware of this trap.

Let me talk about another aspect of what this verse is saying.  A covenant is a marriage in the eyes of God.  You can learn this by reading Malachi 2:14.  God reveals to us it matters who we marry.  When a Christian marries a non-Christian they usually regret it.  Many times a Christian lady will marry a man thinking he will change and go to church with her and this is usually a vast disappointment when this does not occur.  The man may even promise and say the right things right up until the wedding day, but after the wedding the bride has joined herself to an unbeliever and become deceived.   This is a common deception revealed to us in the Bible and if you learn now before you get married, you will avoid this trap.

Psa 38:12  They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

The traps of the enemy are many times laced with enough truth and good that it appears to be something desirable.  If you wanted to kill an animal you would not throw it just poison and hope that they ate it.  No you wrap the poison in a steak, or something that is very desirable to the animal.   This is a common practice of the enemy.  They usually do not start with the blatant obvious lies, they always start with the truth and mix in a few lies here and there.  By doing this they have disguised the lies and made them harder to recognize and easier to accept.  This verse in Psalms tells us that Satan uses people to hurt people.  This could be a physical pain or an emotional pain as this verse is talking about.  By using words from one person to hurt and offend another, this is a common trap that people fall into, even in church.  It could be an intentional hurt or an unintentional hurt, but the result is often times the same.  Satan is working day and night to get to you and he will use anyone that he can to do this.  It might be your pastor or your best friend, but do not fall into the trap.  Recognize what it is and pray for them, do not confront them personally or you may be repeating the offense in a reverse attack.   Do not let Satan use you to get back at someone that did you wrong.

Psa 119:110  The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

Here is a prevalent method of the enemy.  To try to distract you from the truth of God’s word.  All the enemy has to do is to get you interested in something else.  Cause something else to become a higher priority than God’s Word.  By distracting you, you become interested in the wrong things.  It could be movies, it could be books, it could even be doing good things like feeding the poor.  Whatever, it takes to distract you from what is suppose to be most important to you, that is what Satan will use to set a trap for you.  The Psalmist says that he stayed focus on God’s Word and did not take the bait that was presented to him.  Recognize where your priorities are right now.  Evaluate yourself and examine what you think is important.  Prioritize your life and make God and His Word number one and strive to keep Him at the top of your priority list.

  1. Brother Ron’s writings on the subject about Satan is right. Sure we as young Christians are all weak in the faith, I for one should know that. Without going into detail I am a registered sex offender, and without going into any degree of sex offense, it is what it is.
Yes Satan came into me in a deceitful way, so yes Satan can use people to set traps for you.

The bible says let no man deceive you.. Any deception is from the devil.. We all try not to lie in our life and try to do the right things….. Go to church, not gossip, try not to be a busybody, try to be perfect but we cannot do it. When I was swore in to testify during my trail, I was wondering who’s God I was swearing too. Was it the God of Creation or the God of Man.

You see trying is not the way… its trusting… and trusting in God and his Son Jesus Christ who came to save us from our sins’… he became the sin for us all that believe and trust in him thru faith. Yes thru his Grace he gave us a way to be redeemed and be son’s of God.

While we all live in this world in the flesh we all have to be on guard and the devil is there to tempt you all the time. So there is good and bad in everything, but those that seek God’s understanding can never go wrong.

Now believe it or not all these trails that we go thru are learning processes and the bible is a daily learning process. Sure we can all get baptized and saved but Saved from what….the wiles of the devil…I don’t think so as the devil has been around since the dawn of time.

Once we are saved we are in God’s protection, we took a leap of faith just as John was baptizing in the river all that repented…Now from there we have other steps and goals in our salvation but we will always be tempted by the devil and his people that he uses.

So be on guard and keep in daily reading of your bible, weather its daily, every other day but just don’t go to church and than come home and sit around.

As for me I can’t even attend church…..no one is willing to give up there life for me or sacrifice their time for me….. what a shame those that are only hearers’ of the word and not doer’s.

  2. Thanks. So I had my niece say the most hurtful and low things to me today, verbally through text messages. I became so hurt that I responded the same way. I definitely know better. She caught me off guard. I felt in my anger, hate against her. But, then I had to go seek the Lord in prayer to help me remove these feelings. I am so disappointed and hurt that it is a distraction. Well, I’m trying to get over it

  3. Thank you especially for being guided by the Holy Spirit in your words. They spoke to me today because I am guilty of having fallen into satan’s snare which has caused my hurt, but I am admonished not to return the hurt but to pray for that person. I am grateful to God because he said seek and you shall find. He said if we lack wisdom of how to act, he would give us wisdom. Bless you.

  4. Thanks for the message. exactly what i wanted . one area that satan has attacked me from most has been through my friends, and other detterents from the word of God like worldly music, movies…. thank God i`ve overcome them and i pray each day for God to guide me. i hope to teach my fellow christians the same message especially where i am, at the university where students face the biggest battle especially with influence from friends and worldly desires. may God bless you.

  5. this a wonderful message I pursued this issue because I deal with attacks from the enemy on a constant and most often he works to get me to give in to discouragement ,depression, condemnation, fear, and anger thank you sir for blessing me with this it could have come at no better time I had recently became friends with someone and found out he was a muslim and because of that I have been avoiding his phone calls because Ive been rather convicted because god has been showing me a passage of scripture not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers so thanks cause this man could be a trap from the devil I ve been more watchful and alert and even more so.

  6. I am very glad that I read this. I am a young Christian who has been going through some tough times lately, ever since I got saved less than two years ago. I am starting to see what has been happening to me. The enemy keeps distracting me because I am weak and have had problems with keeping in touch with reality. My childhood was not so great so I did something called escapism in order to get through it. However, I didn’t stop and continued this behavior until my late teen years and created other people and other realities in my mind in order to make myself feel better. It has become like an addiction of my mind that I can’t seem to get rid of. Satan uses this to keep me distracted. Years ago I became so out of touch with reality it was as though my real life was my second life.

This past year has been a time of trials and tribulations for me. It seems like any time I start to grow closer to God, people start acting weird around me. They seem to act up and I find myself attracting mean and cold stares from people that I don’t even know. I just graduated from high school and during my last year as I started to lose my pride and God was breaking me and softening my hard heart (I was very hard hearted before I became a Christian. It has taken A LOT of breaking me down and suffering for God to get me where I am today) I found myself being targeted by bullies more and even had some of my friends turn against me for no reason at all. I had a group of girls begin monitoring me excessively and watching every little thing I do and trying to intimidate me and one of my old friends went behind my back and hurt me so much. She made an effort to turn my friends and even my own teachers against me. She went to all of them, yes even my teachers, and told them things in order to hurt me and it worked.

Am I the only one? That whenever I grow close to God I seem to attract hostile stares and mean people for some odd reason? Do we give off vibes or energy that Satan can see and he somehow tries to influence others to hurt us? I never thought that things like that existed. The bible does not say that we give off energy or vibes. The whole idea of that is kind of new agey I think.

It seems though that some people just have this instant dislike of me now than before. Back when I was not saved, just some girl of the world, I don’t think that I evoked such hostility from people. I will now catch random strangers with scowls just staring at me intensely for long periods of time and I get a creepy feeling and certain people now have this new instant hatred of me and I wonder if it is because of the Holy Spirit in me. I mean how can they know? I am quiet and don’t talk much unless like I said I give off a vibe or Satan knows and can influence those easily who do not know God and who don’t have protection.

  7. Thanks for the website How satan uses people to set traps for me.

I have been battling satan everyday since I got saved Febrary 27, 1997. He took my job, took my husband, my Father ill with cancer, took my social security, took my workman’s comp, took my retirement, no income for 10 years, destroyed my name, everyone in this town is plotting against me to stop me, took my friends, took my family, satan using my family against me, took my home, I am harrassed, followed, accused of stealing, you name it and satan has tryed it.

Once I begin to seek God at first I wanted to kill myself, but God hung on to me and never let me go. I could not even get up in the first years, but I made sure I was listening to the word continually day and night.
God begin to pull me up by my fingernails.

Today he is my rock everyday and I just say Lord handle this situations and He is working on my behalf. Still going thru these situations, but God taught me the word and how to be strong and faithful and recieve His mercy and grace everyday.

I have no one, but God this way He gets all the Praise, Honor, and Glory.

Oh by the way I am black in a all white community, I was the first blace to ever have a office job, first black to have a parking place, marry a white guy, to make higher salary, etc.

I was Head Start Director over 4 counties, buses, buildings, traveled, etc.

These counties are so political that politics tried to destroy me in every direction.

When my father was sick with cancer and before that I was not wanted in churches because of politics and the lies that satan told on me.

It was me and God no one to talk to. He was and is my best friend. I have been told I study the word to much and read to much. I have been run out of every church I have attended, so now I don’t go to church I am the church. That is what my God tells me.

But let me tell you the good that God has done in my life. He loves me everyday unconditionally. He tells me I am his daughter and how special I am. He speaks to me through scriptures, He is so special and I love Him so much. He has taught me life’s lessons that I can use everyday and no one and I mean on one can take that from me.

Thank you for websites that we can go to and have understanding, because I always to lead me and He does everyday.

    Thanks,

From a woman that loves life everyday

    • Mar 4:15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

God tells us very clearly that Satan is after you to get the Word of God out of your heart. Satan does this with a mighty vengence at times. Especially to young Christians who do not know how to counter act and fight him back. God says we “wrestle not against flesh and blood but yet Satan uses these people to attack us”. We can only remain faithful to God who will not allow Satan to put on us more than we are able. You have certainly been through a lot and to your credit you have stayed on God’s side of the battle. Learn to fight the enemy with the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God coming out of your mouth. This is your only offensive weapon against Him and it is very strong and powerful. God Bless!

  8. Thank You
