Understanding Satan’s Abilities! Can Satan Read Your Mind?

(Ver 1.4)  This will be an extremely complex Bible study today of a highly spiritual nature about the spiritual abilities of your enemy Satan.  We will explore many difficult and different scriptures found in the Bible that help us to see the truth.  In studying your enemy you should learn both his strengths and his weaknesses so that you can be better prepared when he comes to tempt, test or attack you.   Satan is definitely this enemy that I am talking about if you are a Christian.  God tells us that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (people) but the principalities, powers and the rulers of the darkness of this world and the spiritual wicked in high places (Eph 6:12).   The Bible clearly tells us that we are in a spiritual warfare with a spiritual enemy that we cannot see.  Since we do not perceive Satan with our physical senses we must read the Bible and see what God tells us about this unseen spirit and how he operates.  Today I am going to focus in on one aspect that many Christians have wondered about.  I was asked this question recently by one of my readers so I thought it would be a good topic to share with all of my readers.  Here was their question:

Can Satan Read Your Mind?

Let’s start by addressing the question “What is your mind”?  Most people associate your mind with your physical brain, an internal organ in your head.  But this is not technically true.  While the physical brain has some vital functions within the natural realm, we must ask “what happens to our mind when our body dies?”  Does it cease to exist?  Absolutely not, the mind is just a part of your internal soul realm.  Your soul is comprised of three elements; your intellect, your will and your emotions.   Your intellect is comprised of your ability to think and reason along with your ability to recall the memories that you have learned or experienced.  Let’s look at a story that Jesus taught us to learn about the mind after death:

Luk 16:20  And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
Luk 16:21  And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luk 16:22  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luk 16:24  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Luk 16:25  But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
Luk 16:26  And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Luk 16:27  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
Luk 16:28  For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Luk 16:29  Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luk 16:30  And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
Luk 16:31  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Reading the story that Jesus teaches us of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16:20-31, we can see the actual account of two men who lived on the earth and then died with their bodies being buried.   After they have died physically they are still alive spiritually and are able to speak verbally, think and reason mentally in this story without their bodies.  Therefore, we know they had conscious awareness and the same mental capabilities that they possessed when they were here on the earth in their bodies.  We are told that the rich man was now in hell and he asks Abraham to send someone back to the earth so that his 5 brothers would not come to this place of torment where he currently was.  In this conversation Abraham tells the rich man to use is mind to “remember”.  This clearly tells us that you will take your past memories of this world into the next eternal realm.  The rich man was able to recall that he had a father’s house and even five natural brothers.  The rich man was further able to mentally reason and come to the conclusion that he did not want his brothers to die and come to this place.  This demonstrated a measured capacity for compassion.  This is a very powerful real life specific lesson about the afterlife experience of three specific men.  It further teaches us that the human spirit and the human mind will be complete together during this afterlife.  The rich man’s ability to think, reason, feel and remember was not tied to whether or not he had any brain cells.  Get it?

The human mind is a very complex and powerful feature of God’s creation.  We use it to think and create many things in our world.  How do we do this?  We take mental concepts and process them and then make determinations and decisions based upon these ideas or thoughts.  It is this advanced reasoning mental ability that humans have that makes us completely different than the animals on our planet.

There are really only three basic states of thought origination, we can make up our own mind thoughts to one point of view, we can change our mind to the opposite perspective or we can attempt to be double minded and accept both realities simultaneously.  Jesus actually warns us about doing this when He said “I would that you were either hot or cold, since you are lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth (Rev 3:16).  God is speaking of a man who is not committed to either way of direction.  God is declaring that the choice is clearly a binary one to make.  Either choose good or choose evil but do not try to fall back and forth into both.  God actually teaches us in the book of James that this is called a “double minded” man:

Jas 1:8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

God is warning us about being a man who is indecisive, uncommitted, trying to appease everyone and God says this man is unstable in all of his ways.  The term translated as “double minded” in James 1:8, is the Greek word that can mean a man who has two spirits controlling him.  Therefore, we see a definite connection from our mind to our spirit and that is very important to understand.  We know that when Lazarus and the rich man died their souls which included their minds, memory, reasoning facilities and even emotions did not die with their physical bodies.  These were still fully intact with their spirits.  Therefore our ability to think is tied directly to our spirit and not our body.  A thought is a process that occurs and is associated with the human mind, but what is the source of a thought?  Where does a thought take place and how does it work?

Gen 6:5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Here is the first occurrence of the thought process of man being stated or described in the Bible directly by name.  We of course realize that the thought process of Adam and Eve were involved in their decision making back in Genesis 3, but God never mentions it directly.  Here in Genesis 6, God looks down on the men on the earth and sees that they only think evil things in their hearts (spirits).  We can again see the connection of thoughts to the spirit of a man and not his physical brain.  So a thought must come to rest in your spirit.  I’m not sure if it originates there, but it is definitely connected as a resting place.

Here in this verse in Genesis 6, God implies that the thoughts of man’s heart could be one of three states, good, evil or both as I previously stated.  We can understand this based upon the words “only” and “continually” used with evil.  The antithesis of these two states would be a man that thinks “only good” and “never evil”.  We could further stipulate someone who is in the middle as being “occasionally evil or intermittently good”.   I personally believe based upon this information that there are three sources of thoughts in the human mind and that these are as follows:

  1. A Thought can originate from a man’s spirit  (Self)
  2. A Thought can originate from a good God’s Spirit (Good)
  3. A Thought can originate from another spiritual being, either a holy angel (Good) or Satan, devil, unholy angel, demon, or unclean spirit (Evil)

A thought represents the potential seed from an unseen realm of influence that can be birthed and expressed in the external actions or words of a human.   Having an evil thought does not make you an evil man, unless you act upon it and live it out.  I believe that a person can be influenced to do good or evil according to what they entertain and allow to remain in their minds.  This is what we just read in Genesis 6 when men only thought evil and acted evil.  God’s

There is a verse of scripture that occurs in the N.T. that says “Those who are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom 8:14).  This verse is a scripture that demonstrates the potential for spiritual influence on humans.   It teaches us how a spirit can encourage people to do the right things.  To be led is the human action of choice to following a guide who shows us the way to go.  However, to be led means we have the opportunity to go the other way and not follow their directions.  It further implies that there are other spirits that can also lead us to do the wrong things in life.  This means that all spirits good or bad can give you direction and that each spirit speaking to us know exactly what they said to you.  This does not mean they read your mind, it only means they provided the guiding thought.  They spoke something to your mind and your spirit and what you do with it is totally up to you.  You can be led by it or you can be a person who ignores it or even one that rebels to do the opposite.  It really boils down to your ability to discern the origin of the voice (thought) being spoken internally.  The good news is that you can know the difference between God and a demon and this is because God says this to you:

Joh 10:4  And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Joh 10:5  And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

Joh 10:14  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

We can clearly see Jesus speaking to us and we are called His sheep.  He says we will be able to recognize His voice because we belong to Him.  We should know that this is a faith proposition being presented to us, but there is also an internal spiritual knowing that will be present.  It is very difficult to explain this to people, if you have never experienced it.  Some have called it an intuition, but we could call it a hunch or awareness or an instinct.  You do not know how you know, you just know.  This has happened to me repeatedly, I have a thought and just based upon the content of the thought I know it came from God.  It is very hard to explain in natural terms because it is a spiritual experience.

2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

This is a fairly popular verse of scripture that you should already be aware of.  But, since we are speaking about the realm of the mind and the origination of thoughts let’s examine what God is saying.  We can see that God is speaking to us to do something.  God tells us to “Cast Down” imaginations.  Then God says to “Take Captive” every thought that does not align with the Knowledge of God.  These are two aggressive actions that we are required to take based upon what?   If you read the context of this verse you can see that God is again describing a spiritual warfare that is taking place.  This means you must interpret this verse within the context of spiritual warfare and this is how you fight against your spiritual enemy Satan.  Where do these thoughts and imaginations come from that you are to “make captive” and “cast down”?   They must come from Satan, otherwise if they were from God we would not need to do anything but follow His leading.  We can assume by indirect reference that the source of these things in our mind that are NOT supposed to be there are from Satan and it is our responsibility to police them out.  It is also obvious to me that if Satan puts these thoughts in our mind then he certainly knows what we are thinking at that instance.  But, he is waiting to see what we do with the thought to see if it worked or not.

Mat 6:31  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Here is a vital spiritual principle to understand.  Jesus said that you can take a thought or reject the thought by reverse implied reference.  This is also a demonstrated choice or act of our freewill.  God never says that He will control our thought in the Bible.  A thought is like if someone offered you some money, you could take it or you could walk away from it by your own choice.  More than likely you will take it because it is desirable.  However, if I handed you a poisonous snake and you took it from me, then you may be called a fool.

This is the nature of the spiritual battle found within our mind.  Jesus is teaching us not to take every thought that we have and to speak them verbally, or act on them, or accept them, etc.  To take a thought means you accept it into your heart and then you begin to speak out what you were thinking.   This is how Satan knows his mind seed trick has succeeded.   As soon as you think something that is contrary to the Word of God you should immediately think what does the Bible say about that?  When Satan tempted Jesus, Jesus would automatically say “It is written” and inform Satan what was written to counter what Satan had just said to Him in his mind.   This is what we need to do also.  However, this assumes that we have studied and read the Bible in order to know what to say in response.  Satan is not going to wait for us to go and get our Bible and look up a scripture.  Satan is going to find you alone in the wilderness without anyone there to help and then bring thoughts into your mind.  It is at these times of isolation that we better have something to say from our heart.  Here in the context of this verse in Matthew 6, Jesus is speaking of how people can let worry consume them into saying and doing things that they should not.  Worry is another negative mental process that is thinking on the wrong things and allowing them to control us.  Jesus is giving us some important information to know about the mental and spiritual realm of reality.  I hope you can see it.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GIVING US A THOUGHT AND MINDREADING

I personally do not believe that Satan can hear your thoughts or read your mind.  However, Satan can certainly give you these thoughts as we have seen to try to influence you through your mind.  I do not believe that Satan is omnipotent, omnipresent or omniscient based upon my study of the Bible.  Satan as the being Lucifer was a created spiritual being who was created to be the high ranking ruler of the angelic order or class of beings.  I believe that Lucifer was a being second in rank only to God who was and is still Supreme.  God created Lucifer to be the “anointed cherub” and you can read about this in Ezekiel 28.  For him to have the title “anointed cherub” implies some supernatural abilities were given to him by God.

For example, in Acts 10:38 says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil”.  Jesus was also anointed by God according to this verse in Acts and by His title of “Christ” which means “anointed one”.   You can clearly see that an anointing represents a supernatural power over the natural.  Jesus it says did good with His anointing and healed people because He possessed this anointing.  It further implies that Satan using his anointed power caused all these sick people to be in this condition by his implied anointed power.   Therefore, we can logically conclude that God’s anointing to heal in Jesus was and is greater than Satan’s anointing to make ill.

So far in my Bible study searches I have not seen any direct verse that says a spirit like Satan can know what you are thinking.  However, God is the exception; according to many Bible verses He does know our thoughts (1 Cor 3:20, Ps 94:11, Ps 139:23).  There are many verses that inform us God knows what we are thinking all of the time and that God revealed these to Jesus sometimes when He walked the face of the earth (Mat 9:4, Mat 12:25, Luke 5:22, Luke 6:8, Luke 11:17).  I do not believe that Jesus knew everyone’s thoughts all of the time based upon scripture.  If you recall the woman with the issue of blood snuck up on Jesus and touched Him and got healed and Jesus knew it happened because He felt power leave Him, but He still did not know who it was that touched Him (Mark 5:30).  Get it?  Let’s now change our focus on other spiritual beings.

Let’s look at some examples of Jesus running into people who were possessed by evil spirits and see what these stories say to us.  The first one I want to read about is found in Mark the first chapter.  Jesus is in the synagogue on the Sabbath teaching when He encounters a man with an unclean spirit who says:

Mar 1:24  Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

As you can read this unclean spirit recognizes Jesus for who He really was and speaks directly to Him.  It is very interesting to me that evil spirits knew who Jesus was, but the natural Jews did not.  Did you notice what this spirit being asks Jesus?  This spirit asks Jesus “Did you come to destroy us”.  Any spirit who could read minds would already know this fact and would not have to ask this stupid basic question.  Do you understand what I just said?  It is very obvious to me that evil spirits cannot read the minds of God, men or even other angels if they have to ask them questions to why they are here what they are doing.  You can clearly see this example repeated in Luke 4:

Luk 4:34  Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

What we observe is a second witness to the fact that evil spirits are not all knowing or mind readers.  Jesus was God in the form of a man who walked the face of the planet as any other human man would.  God the omnipotent supreme power of the universe lowered Himself and becomes an intimate part of His own creation.  Evil Spirits would consistently say we know who you are; you are the Holy One of God.  Then they would ask Him are you come to destroy us?   They did not know why Jesus had come in the flesh and for what purpose He had manifested as a human being.  This act of God obviously took them by great surprise and they were afraid and very confused to know what to do with Him.

1Co 2:8  Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Here in 1 Corinthians, God further confirms what I just said.  This verse clearly says that if Satan would have known why Jesus was here, he would not have had Him crucified.  Satan does not understand acts of love; God who is Love, so loved the World that He gave Himself for us (John 3:16).  There are many God concepts that Satan does not understand.  We know that God’s ways are not our ways according to Isaiah 55:8, but we can also clearly see and understand that God’s ways are not Satan’s ways either or Satan would have understood the plan of God and countered it with more effectiveness.

Jud 1:9  Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

There are other instances in the Bible that are related to this topic of Satanic mind reading. For example here in Jude we see Michael another high ranking angelic being having a confrontation with Satan (Lucifer) about the body of Moses.  If Satan could read the mind of this angelic being that was sent to him, there would be no need for a fight.  The existence of an implied verbal confrontation confirms that there was no mind reading abilities in either created spiritual being either good or bad.

So while the Bible does not have a direct verse that says Satan cannot read your mind, you have to find out what the Bible does say on the subject and put the pieces of the puzzle together to understand what he can and can’t do.  We can clearly see that Jesus walked the face of the earth for over 33 years and that at no time could Satan read His mind and find out why He was here.  If you believe that Jesus was a man like yourself, then you have to conclude that Satan cannot read your mind either.  So the subject is a very complex one that is probably difficult for many to grasp.  I believe sincerely that Satan cannot read your mind directly, but in this same lesson I teach you that he can give you thoughts to think on and that he knows what he said to you.  These thoughts are his seeds that can take root in your spirit and grow into weeds3if you let them.  You spirit was created and designed by God to be His garden and God has put you in charge of weeding it out by casting down vain imaginations and evil thoughts.  These are the ways that Satan can take control of your external life behavior and he does this by planting internal seeds into your spiritual component.  If you want to learn about how things work in the spiritual realm this is one of the most important subjects for us to know.  It also tells us that Satan can cause people’s minds to be blinded so that we do not hear or accept the truth of God (2 Cor 4:4).  The spiritual battle is primarily a war of the thoughts in your mind.  Satan wants to control your thoughts and by controlling your thoughts he is able to control your actions through his negative influence.  However when we meditate on God’s Word we are able to replace Satan’s thoughts with God’s.  I hope that you learned something new today that will help you in your walk with God, until next time may God continue to enlighten the eyes of your spirit that you may know Him.

  1. You state: “It is very obvious to me that evil spirits cannot read the minds of God, men or even other angels if they have to ask them questions to why they are here what they are doing.” Job 1:7 states: “7The Lord said to Satan,* ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan* answered the Lord, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”
Why, in your opinion, couldn’t God read satan’s mind? He knows satan is the father of lies, so why did God accept his answer expecting the truth?

    • Thank you for reading and studying the Bible. I never said God could not read the mind of anyone or everyone. He is more than able to do this according to the Bible in Mat 12:25, Luk 6:8, 1 Chr 28:9 and many others.

Just because God asks a question does not indicate He is ignorant of the answer that will be given. In the book of Job, because God knew why Satan was there standing before Him, He asked a direct question to get to the point and prove to Satan he is not able to surprise God with his hidden motivations and intents.

God has spoken to me before while reading the Bible and He usually does this in a kind manner by asking me a question. He does this to get my attention while not calling me dumb, ignorant or stupid. It is a very clear way of being kind when teaching someone something. God has said to me “Did you hear what they said?” “Did you notice that verse doesn’t say….”. These types of simple questions actually say and reveal so very much without saying a lot that is not necessary.

Thank you again and my God richly bless you and fill you with His Holy Spirit.

    • Hello sister, Thanks for the question. I believe personally that it is possible for Satan to understand people praying in tongues IF God wants him to know. Otherwise, it is a mystery to humans and spiritual beings like angels or demons. We know this from 1 Cor 14:2 a man speaking in tongues speaks mysteries to GOD. According to Acts 2:4 the languages spoken by humans in tongues is chosen by God and NOT man. I can’t select to speak in Chinese even if I wanted to very badly to help someone. However, God could select to provide this gift for the aide of that person if He chooses to. Therefore, God is omniscient and knows every language and is even smart enough to create a brand new language every time a believer prays this way. Thus it would be impossible for Satan to know the message spoken to God in prayer since he is not involved in the process in any way. That is just my quick answer based upon two Bible verses. I know of other Bible verses on this subject but I don’t know of any other verses that contradict what those two teach us on this subject. I hope that will help. God Bless you.

WATCH THIS Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 Vs Luke 16:20-31.

Wow wow wow, that is great spiritual teachings you have done.

Hello Brother, your work seems to be good but did you seriously quote from Luke 16:20-31 and you consciously concluded that; “After they have died physically they are still able to speak verbally”
Ok, if you are spiritually teaching the “TRUTH ” tell me now by stating and describing and differentiating the both two contexts by giving the reason why Jesus provided a such example to fit His teachings and try to help me and others who are confused by those two scriptures, please us to know how can you or someone else fix this Luke 16:20-31 with Ecclesiastes 9:5-6?

    • This is not really rocket science. It is not difficult to resolve what you think is a contradiction in God’s Word. The first problem is resolved by knowing one verse is written in the O.T. and the other is at the beginning of the N.T. The Old Testament is Jesus and God’s truth hidden and the N.T. is Jesus and God’s truth revealed. The second step to resolving what you think is a problem is to read the context and the grammar very carefully in the O.T. Here is the key to understanding Ecc 9:5. This verse is written from a human natural perspective and not a divine spiritual perspective. It begins with “The living know they will die”. This is clearly any natural human being with a body informing us that they know they will die. Ok, interrupt the next part of the statement from the same exact perspective and remember the key part being emphasized is the body. Does a dead body know anything? Absolutely NOT! Can a dead body speak anything? Absolutely NOT! Can a dead body get any more rewards here on this earth that they know of? Again Absolutely NOT! Does the dead body have any memories of their life? The final answer is still Absolutely NOT! None of this truth when rightly divided contradicts with the N.T. revealed truth that the spiritual person that died and left their body on the earth and went to hell can still remember and speak. Everything God says about their body in Ecc is true and everything that God says about their spirit in Luke 16 is true simultaneously. God Bless,

Therefore the Omnipotent God is more than capable of knowing how to protect His Spoken and Written word from being corrupted. That of course does not mean that Satan does not try. It only means we must search and study His Word to find the truth that He has given to us. I’ll leave you with this verse that Jesus spoke on this subject:

Mat 5:18 For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled.

This statement confirms what I just said. God will not allow even a small part of His Word to be altered.

      Thank you and God BLess

  16. Can Satan read my thoughts? I really hope so. If he can’t then perhaps GOD is telling him. Nothing ever seems to go right. Just when I seem to be getting my head put of the water something happens and I’m grasping for air. That applies to ideas I come up with. I learned a long time ago not to voice my ideas so I keep them to myself. Those good ideas are stopped also. I pray and do everything I suppose to do as a Christian. So what am I doing wrong?

I wasn’t happy with my life at home either. I never verbally requested any help from God or Satan. I was having dark thoughts and evil desires. Outwardly I was acting like everything was fine. But inside it was different. Well one night I received a visit from an evil presence. At first I thought nothing of it. Just my imagination. The next night it happened again. I figured out what was going on. It scared me and I quickly stopped and prayed for God to send the evil away. There’s more to the story but the fact is I never spoke or acted like I felt. Satan read my thoughts and desires. Please do not let them convince you that he can’t. Satan is more powerful than you think. Don’t ever let your guard down.
    God bless and protect you.

    • Even though I will have to do some more research, I do not believe that he can read your thoughts. The thing that stuck out to me in this article is that satan gives us thoughts that are contrary to the word of God. For example, when I have a thought that says I am afraid of people, I know that I’d the devil. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. In Ephesians 29:11, it says, “for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. This tells me that the only thoughts that are evil come from satan and we must learn to separate those from the thoughts of God. I do not believe that satan can reads our thoughts t he is actually the one who gives them to us. We just gave to know th e Word of God and really study it, this is where I have be failing. I would constantly dwell on all the evil thoughts in my mind, thinking that I was a bad person, but not realizing that it was satan. I didn’t know enough of the Word of God to fight him back, so he was constantly winning the war. Reread this article and ask God to give u done clarity on it. It was an eye opener for me and I pray that God will bless the one who wrote it. Glory to God!

  18. Amazing!!! Your blog post about understanding the abilities is awesome. Right now, I’m in taking a graduate course in social policy and my professor stressed the importance of knowing the thoughts of your opponent. Concurrently, with reading the TD Jakes book, “Anointing Fall On me” he discussed the Satan’s ability to survey our prayer life if we fail to pray in the spirit. Intrigued to understand my spiritual opponent, lead my to ask ” Can Satan read my mind?” Based on your biblical supported blog post and explanation I confidently say the answer is no. Its up to me as a believer to be self-aware of my thoughts and clarify the origin of my thoughts. May God’s Favor rest on you, God Bless!

God Lade to this blog. Two days back I was telling my Friend ,
” If you will know Satan can’t read your mind, He can only guess by your Talk, Body Language and situation ( like any other Human can) what you may be thinking. Then your whole prospective will change towards every verse you know. Then every verse will make sense in a different way. So watch your Mouth & Actions. At the same time practice Bold and fearless attitude and use and promote biblical thoughts. He will understand what you are and will reduce his visit.
But I never knew we have so many supporting verses.
I think we should preach this more and more. Also people will stop Blaming Satan for everything and understand the privileged of free will.
    One question.
Then what is Demon possessed? As per my understanding he can control Body but when?
I may be wrong but please reply

    • Amen. This blog and your comment are explosive. Allow me to add something. When we see people dealing with deep spiritual issues as you describe. As a church we ought to be growing and maturing those gifts. A person in this type of battle is absolutely on the verge of an amazing blessing. Some people in the church are simply the Martha’s. Working away. But others have a different calling and purpose. Sadly we can miss blessing. Even in the church. Trusting God puts food on the table but it doesn’t supply tomorrow’s yet. God always wants us to prepare for tomorrow as we see in sanctification. If we are being sanctified. Clearly our minds are responsible for processing this transformation based on Abraham’s. Jacobs. Joseph’s. David’s life. Etcetera. A life long preparation for a life with God. But God is approving salvation. Why. Not cuz he’s a jerk. But because he says. Which is a mind scripture. “ Deuteronomy “. I did not choose you because your righteous. But because they hate me “. If you mind doesn’t spiral out of control with that. I question your practice on spiritual matters.😂 lol. Demon possession. This is when satan is using a person full time. The picture I get in the Bible through out is simply fully possessed. Because even Peter listened to satan when he was told. Get behind me. We are sealed with the mind. But we listen to our God. This is why we can not serve God and man. Not cuz Gods a jerk but cuz we listen to our God. So we see a picture that God sealed us with his promise. What promise. The promise we are constantly under attack for. The promise we use our minds to understand. We are saved. No one believes this but you. Your church friends don’t believe like you sometimes. A realization your definitely not home. A reality born in your mind. . . Preparing our lives can Implement right thinking. We prepare a way for the lord because our minds are tuned into his voice despite our fears. But by the 4th time the Jews marched around the walls. You know some started to doubt. But Satan unable to read mens minds would have attacked them instead of stare at them dumbfounded. The mind is where Judas was conquered. The ground Jesus fights on. This is why Michael himself understanding his domain said. The Lord rebuke you. Michael ought to be able to do it himself. But he understands Jesus is replacing all authority. Amazing God bless

Your article was definitely interesting ….all your answers were good ones with deep intellect. Food for thought. Through various instances in the Bible, you brought to my attention as to why or why not Satan is able to read one’s thoughts. Thank you so much for going into great detail in your article. I have come away with a better understanding of the ever puzzling queston we all desire to know, ” Can Satan read our minds?”

  22. Ty777 could also be a 7th Day Adventist…they hold to similar doctrine as do the JW’s. They never have an answer as to the fact that MOSES DIED, and yet was AT THE TRANSFIGURATION…ALIVE…TALKING TO JESUS. If the dead rise not, and know nothing…then explain this?

  25. The Bible clearly says that our thoughts perish when we die and the dead know not anything. The story of Lazarus and the rich man was a parable used to illustrate a point. It is inconsistent with all other scriptures concerning the state of the dead and it was told within a sequence of other parables. It is not to be taken as a historical/literal event.

    • I could not disagree more with your comment. If Jesus tells a story in Luke 16 with the specific name of a specific man named Lazarus that cannot be a parable or JESUS CHRIST IS A LIAR. Did you notice that Abraham was in this story also? Is Abraham a real man? If Abraham is a real man then Lazarus is a real man and there is no other valid interpretation except to take it literally. Show me one other prable with the name of any real man. I don’t think you can find one unless you try to make another real literal story into another false parable. Parables always begin with the terms of “The Kingdom of heave is like” and then tell us what it is like using symbolic langauage. A symbol is never the literal name of a man anywhere in the whole Bible. Jesus tells many parables and it is always about an anonymous man (not named) that does something like sows seed. In that example Jesus was the unnamed man that sows seed. If you do not understand what a parable is you can try to make anything a parable in the Bible to explain away whatever you want to not beleive. I assume that you believe the dead do not know anything? Maybe you even believe in the ignorant philosophy of “Soul Sleep”. What about the vision of Peter, James and John when they see Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah on the mountain. Is that a prable also to you? Isn’t Moses a real man that died hundreds of years before Jesus came to the earth? How can Moses be present and be seen speaking with Jesus on the earth if he knows nothing? If Moses knows nothing there is nothing for Jesus to speak to him for or about. You must think this is a parable also. What a crazy belief if you believe that. I guess nothing in the Bible or the Gospels is ever literal and maybe Jesus did not even die on the cross. You really need to learn the Bible before you make your ignorant comments on my website. If you would have asked me a question I would have treated you with greater love and respect, but since you come to me as my teacher that lacks understanding of God’s Word you have no place on this website for any honor or respect. Either change your attitude and come back or just go away. Your choice.

      • Thanks for your reply. I am not sure why you think I have an attitude because I shared my beliefs about the story you used. Your entire lesson study is full of your personal opinions and you even mention this in this study. I came to gain your perspective on whether or not Satan can read our minds and was thrown off by your first point. I didn’t say anything disrespectful or degrading. Your reply is full of both.

I do know the Bible well and the Bible explains the specific times when a person has gone to heaven. These are not the norms but the exceptions. Elijah and Moses are examples of this and I do take them literally. The story about Lazarus and the rich man was symbolic. If you go back to the start of the main story in Luke 15, it tells you why this story was told and what it illustrates. Luke 15:2, “And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.” To justify his actions and to teach them a lesson Jesus introduced a series of parables. Not sure why you believe that all of Jesus’ parables have to start off with “The Kingdom is like…”. Luke 15:3-4 does not say anything like that but it is called a parable. In response to the Pharisees and scribes, Jesus started off by telling the parable of the Lost Sheep: went on to tell the parable of the Prodigal Son; then The Dishonest Steward; then the Rich Man and Lazarus. Jesus often used parables that his current audience could relate to. It was a common belief among the Jews that there was a conscious state of existence between death and the resurrection. However, this belief is definitely contrary to the Word of God. The Jewish historian Flavious Josephus discusses this as well in his “Discourse to the Greeks Concerning Hades.”

There are many verses in the Bible that tell us that the dead know nothing and have no abilities to talk, think, or praise God. Psalms 146:4, “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” Ecclesiastes 9:5, “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything…” Psalm 115:17, “The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.” Jesus said in John 5:28, 29, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which ALL that are IN THE GRAVES shall hear his voice, and shall come forth: they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13, But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are ASLEEP, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” Job 14: 11-13, “As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up: so man LIETH DOWN, AND RISETH NOT: TILL THE HEAVENS BE NO MORE, they shall NOT AWAKE, NOR BE RAISED OUT OF THEIR SLEEP. O that thou would hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!” There are many other verses that are consistent with these scriptures.

If the righteous go to heaven when they die and the unrighteous die and go to hell as soon as they die, who is Jesus coming to resurrect? Are we to believe righteous who died are called back from heaven to be raised from the dead and then go right back to heaven. Are we to believe that the wicked are called up from hell to be put right back in hell? Is that supported by scripture or even logical?

Again, I came here to find out about your biblical interpretations on Satan and his ability to read minds. I gained some good insight from a lot of your points. However, in my opinion and experience in studying the Bible, I don’t think there is substantial evidence to outweigh the numerous verses that discuss the state of the dead and the resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous.

      • I am not going to debate a man that does not know how to rightly divide the Word of Truth to see the difference between natural things and spiritual things spoken of in the Bible. YES! The Bible teaches us the body sleeps, and the dead body knows nothing, can hear nothing and can say nothing. But the spirit of the man is not his body and no spirit ever sleeps. Every spirit is awake and alive forever, knowing, seeing, speaking and remembering. The story of Lazarus is not a parable for the reasons that there are literal men’s names given. In no parable is this valid or Jesus is A LIAR. A LIAR IS ANYONE THAT IS A SPEAKER OF FABRICATED WORDS GIVING THE APPEARANCE OF TRUTH. If I said “I’m a millionaire” when I own nothing over twenty dollars that makes me a liar. If Jesus says a man named Lazarus dies and goes to be with Abraham and if that is not literally true, then Jesus is now one of the biggest liars in the Bible. You clearly need to learn the difference in what is truth and what is a lie. I asked you to give me one other parable that names any names and you did not because it does not exist.
Paul said this “2Co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” To be absent from the body is the defined state of physical death according to James 2:26 and Paul tells us that there is no transitional phase of non-existence that occurs after death. He clearly says when he dies naturally; his spirit will be present with the Lord immediately. This is exactly confirmed with the story of Lazarus. When the rich man and Lazarus they both died on the earth and their bodies were placed in the ground, the angels immediately carry them away to one of two places. The rich man in hell could talk, remember and feel the torment of hell. If this is not true them it is a lie not a parable. Since Jesus is peaking I choose to believe it is literal truth. You are free to do whatever you like.
So I appreciate your enthusiasm for your wrong beliefs, but do not act like I am ignorant of them because I heard this philosophy almost 30 years ago and went and studied it and threw it in the garbage. It always amazes me when someone thinks they are helping someone when they do not ask to see their side of the argument first. Since I knew your side of the argument from 30 years ago, I had no need to ask you why you believed what you did. You gave me no new scriptures and in fact the majority of your Bible verses are from the Old Testament and since I’m not under that covenant they do not even apply to me under the New Covenant. Your references to Jesus words in the Gospel are clearly taken out of context trying to make them say what they do not say. Decide which covenant that you are living under and focus on those verses first. The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. So you cannot even understand what is written in the Old without finding the interpretations from the New.

    • This is clearly a Jehovah’s Witness talking. I hate to say this, but I recognize the wording that has been taught to this individual from their governing body. Word for word, it is exactly the same thing they all say to debate the lazarus story. I pray brother Ty777, if have doubt, do some study on scientific documentation of people who have returned from the dead all over this world (called “Near Death Experiencers”) who tell of a very loving afterlife for faithful servants of Christ. Just please do me a favor if you reply to this and do not chalk all the evidence up to “demons.”

It was just the words written on the face that reminded of how people think that Satan can read their minds. If I recall correctly I posted this before M.J. died and I did not mean to connect him to anything in the lesson. I hope you understand and I will consider changing the picture now that M.J. is not in the world anymore to alleviate the confusion. I just need to find a new picture that is similar to the concent given.

So when a person in the world like a fortune telleer or witch doctor tries to tell you what will happen in the future, it is up to you to reject it and not to agree with it. Only if you agree with it will it come to pass. Never fear a devil and what they say, Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. God Bless!

I appreciate what you written here. I just had a friend ask me the question if Satan could read our minds. I remember hearing in one of Beth Moore’s bible studies that Satan cannot read our minds but can read our actions and hear our words, thus, having understanding of what we are thinking.

I also was thinking about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, saying “Not my will, but thine be done.” If Satan could read Jesus’ mind, he would have been able to understand what Jesus was communicating to his disciples about the need for him to sacrifice his life and be resurrected. If he could have known that, he certainly would not have encouraged an evil spirit to stir up the people for demand Jesus’ death over Barrabas!
