Names, Titles, Descriptions and Symbols of Jerusalem in the Bible

(ver 2.0)  This is Part 4 in a series of reference documents revealing the multiple Names, Titles, Descriptions and Symbols of Spiritual Individuals in the Bible.  This lesson will focus only on the subject verses describing Jerusalem found in the Bible.  This is a living document of references to Jerusalem and it will change and be updated as I am led to additional scriptures.  A Name is a direct reference to the individual.  A Title is a given direct identifying appellation signifying status or function.  A Description is something that represents the individual in expressive words.  A Type is a real named person, place or thing that can be viewed to apply to a pattern of the spiritual individual not directly named.  A Symbol is a natural object that describes the characteristics or features of a spiritual being that you cannot see or understand without first understanding the symbol.

Jerusalem is a central subject of the Bible and the capital of Israel located in the Middle East today.  Jerusalem is also a major city revealed in end time prophecy.  This city has captured the attention of the entire world.  Jerusalem is mentioned in the Bible directly around 767 times and indirectly many other times.  However, it is very important for you to know that there is more than one city named Jerusalem in the Bible.  In fact there are 3 separate and distinct cities all with this exact name.  Knowing this information complicates correct Bible interpretation significantly.  You must be wise enough to know which Jerusalem God is talking about when you see the name “Jerusalem” by itself.  You may be asking yourself what are these three cities named Jerusalem and I will give you a quick lesson on them:

  1. The Jerusalem that now is as revealed in Galatians 4:25 and in multiple other verses and the primary subject of this document.
  2. The Jerusalem Above revealed in Galatians 4:26 and is called the Heavenly Jerusalem in Hebrews 12:22.
  3. The New Jerusalem revealed as the Lamb’s wife in Revelation 3:12 and 21:2.

From these references you should be able to recognize the existence of three cities named Jerusalem.  This document will primarily focus on the one reference of the Jerusalem on the earth that now is.  If you have seen other verses that I have not found yet for Jerusalem, please share them with me in a comment.  Thank you.
