(Ver 1.1) This is now Part 10 of a series of lessons on the True Identity of the Woman in Revelation 12. While I have said a lot of new things on this subject, there is certainly more that I can say. If you have not read this series from the beginning I would highly recommend that you start your reading with “Part 1” and go forward from there in order to understand everything that has been taught up to this point. Today’s lesson will be a further confirmation and follow up of information previously taught along with some new perspectives on some new information that the Spirit of God has taught me about this subject recently. I have not written about this subject in a long time, but this is the way God works so I always try to go with the flow of the Holy Spirit. I will probably repeat some things that I have said in other blogs but, I’ll try to give you a new spiritual perspective on what it all means at the same time and how it relates to the woman in Revelation 12.
I have learned that no matter how long I study or teach any subject in the Bible, that there is always more to learn and discover with the Lord’s guidance. We just cannot exhaust God’s knowledge on any subject. Part of today’s lesson will be focused upon the condition of the woman first described to us in Revelation 12 verse 2. Too many Christians have ignored key symbolic elements given to us in this chapter and have concluded that this woman is the natural nation of Israel or physical woman named Mary because they assume that the child is automatically the natural baby Jesus. I believe that I have shown you clearly many scriptural backings that the Bible says that this woman cannot be Israel or Mary. I also personally believe that most or all of the burden of proof of whether this woman in Revelation 12 can be the church, rests entirely upon God and His Word and not upon me or you. In other words I’m not just looking for scriptures to confirm my opinion on the identity of the woman in Revelation 12, I’m just looking for the truth with God’s Help no matter what it is or who it is.
CAN A SPIRITUAL WOMAN GET PREGNANT?
So if God describes this woman as being pregnant in Rev 12:2, can a spiritual woman called the church become this way? If the answer is yes, then how is this possible? This information will clearly tell us something very profound and help to confirm what I have already taught you about the woman; I hope and pray that you can see it also. I will warn you that part of today’s subject is a very advanced Bible lesson about sexual intimacy between husband and wife and that may be a scary subject to many Christians. However, we cannot logically discuss the pregnancy of a woman without discussing God’s created way that it happens called sex unless we choose to bury our head in the sand and ignore it. If you are not a mature Christian and have not agreed with what was taught in the first parts of this series, then I would suggest that you go and read somebody else’s blog today. If you have read this series of lessons and can clearly see that this woman described to us in Revelation appears to be the church, then please continue reading today’s lesson about spiritual sex and husband and wife intimacy. Here is the first foundational scripture for today’s lesson:
Rev 12:2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
We can clearly see from reading Revelation 12:2 that whoever this woman represents, she is said to be pregnant, in pain and about to deliver a child. If this woman is a symbolic representation of the spiritual reality called the church, then I believe all of the other references found in this chapter describing her are also symbolic spiritual realities, including the child that is delivered later in the chapter. I have already covered verse 1 in some depth so I will not rehash those symbolic references again today. However, I have not even touched on verse 2 in this series so I will start here today with asking you the million dollar question that arises from reading this verse. So how does a spiritual woman get pregnant?
You may not totally understand what a spiritual woman is using God’s definitions found in the Bible so you might need to stop and go and read some of my other Bible lessons to better understand this subject first. Here is a very quick overview of what the Bible describes as a woman to God. Technically speaking a real spiritual woman is always a nation of people married in a covenant to God or another spiritual being like Satan. If you do not understand this I wrote other Bible lessons about God’s definition of a woman and marriage in my series on “Understanding the Bride of Christ”.
These days if you are older than 12 years old you pretty much know how a physical woman gets pregnant so I will not discuss that fully today, because I believe that we are really interested in talking about a symbolic spiritual woman in this chapter of Revelation. It is still interesting to note that the subject of pregnancy either physical or spiritual while being a totally different reality is still at the same time is completely the same. Here now is a verse that Jesus taught to us in the book of John and you will probably read it at first and not even know why I included it next about a study of how a spiritual woman gets pregnant.
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Jesus taught us something about knowing the truth that is very profound and extremely important to understand. Wow, this is a difficult verse to see and understand and even more difficult to discuss when you do understand it. We should start by saying that Jesus called himself the Truth (John 14:6). Therefore, the Spirit of Truth would be the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Then the verse has a phrase that says “and (He the Spirit of Truth) shall be in you” and that is the part that I want you to focus on first. This phrase has direct sexual and intimate connotations attached to it everywhere. However, the terminology is in the context of a spiritual state or reality, since the word “He” is referring to the Spirit of God, who is a Spirit. To get a natural woman pregnant you either have to get a sperm cell (seed) in her naturally or artificially as modern science can accomplish with surgical instrumentation and procedures.
I warned you that this was going to be a mature subject, so please be mature and keep spiritual things in focus. While spiritual sex and intimacy is not natural sex, God actually calls them by the exact same name throughout the Bible, but you probably just didn’t know that until now. Here in this verse of John 14:17 there is a Greek word translated as to “know” and it says the unsaved world doesn’t “know” Him, but that the saved church does “know” Him. If you go back to the first mention of natural sex in the Bible and a woman getting pregnant, you will find by the law of first mention some basic Bible truths to the reality of what God wants us to understand about the subject of sexual intimacy and spiritual reproduction. The first mention of sex that I could find in the Bible is between the first created man and woman in Genesis 4:1 and it says this:
Gen 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
How does God say that Eve conceived a child? God clearly says that Adam “knew” Eve and she then conceived a son named Cain from this experience. The Hebrew word translated as “knew” is transliterated as “yada” and it means “to know” or “to ascertain by seeing”. That is a highly important definition from the Word of God created by Him describing the natural act of sexual intimacy between the husband and his wife. So what does it mean and how does it apply to what we read in John? What we need to do is to take a natural occurrence example and correctly transfer it into a higher God spiritual meaning; otherwise we will just be confused.
To see or to ascertain are both terms that can be transferred to “knowing” or “understanding” a subject mentally. There is technically a great difference between knowing something and understanding something. You can certainly know your wife but never totally understand her. God never said that Adam “understood” Eve and she became pregnant. So I just went down a brief rabbit trail on the related subject of understanding vs. knowledge. What we must realize is that it takes a concentrated effort to understand anything or anyone and that this understanding only comes after the initial step of gaining knowledge. If you do not understand these concepts I would suggest that you go back and read my lesson on “Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom”.
HOW TO CONNECT HEBREW WORDS TO GREEK WORDS
In order to prove to you that I’m not making this stuff up, I’m going to teach you a valuable lesson on how to study the Bible correctly. Because the New Testament is written in Greek originally and the Old Testament is written in Hebrew predominantly; how can we insure that when we use a word from Genesis translated as “knew” that it is the same exact word and subject that was related to “know” found in John 14:17? That is a really good question to consider and I’m going to answer it for you right now.
Too many people just assume a Hebrew word is the same as a Greek word because of their English translations. Some even believe that they are different subjects because they are different English words and jump to a conclusion that could be potentially wrong. So what do we do to solve this problem? First, we find a verse that is in both the Old Testament and the New Testament with the word “Know” in it and then we look to see if they are the same words that we looked at in both Genesis 4:1 and John 14:17. Do you understand what I am doing? I am proving that the Greek word in John 14:17 is the exact same Hebrew word translated as Adam “knew” his wife in Genesis 4:1 in order for us to clearly see that they are God’s related subjects.
So we need to search for a verse in the New Testament with the word “know” and determine if it was a quoted verse from the Old Testament. If we can find just one verse in the N.T. that is quoted from the O.T. we can automatically learn what Hebrew words are directly related to what Greek words. However, this is easier said than done; unless you have a NASB translation of the Bible on your computer. In the NASB translation they put all Old Testament quotations in the N.T. in ALL CAPS making it much easier to see quickly that it is the same verse as one that is being quoted in the O.T. So I found this one in Hebrews 8:11:
Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
This verse in Hebrews just so happens to be a direct quotation from the prophet Jeremiah. If you notice this word translated as “know” is G1097 in the Strong’s. If you go back to read John 14:17 again and look up the Greek word for “know” you will confirm that it is the exact same Greek word found in this verse also. So we can by logical deduction conclude that we have half of the puzzle solved on the New Testament side. Then we go to Jeremiah 31:34 and see what word God used in this original verse that was quoted in the N.T. to see if it is related to the Genesis 4:1 Hebrew word H3045 that was being used by God for sexual intimacy.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
As you can see in this verse if you look for it, the Hebrew word translated as “know” is the word “H3045” in the Strong’s and guess what, that is the exact same word translated as “knew” in Genesis 4:1. So by doing some extended analysis of the Bible, we have confirmed that God is talking about spiritual sexual intimacy in John 14:17 using the same word; this is clearly not a natural act in John but, is on a spiritual scale. God is basically saying that having knowledge of Him is like having sexual intimacy with your wife or your husband.
So how do we obtain the spiritual intimate knowledge of God? The main way that I know to do this is to read and study His Word. And guess what the Bible says the Word is? The Bible calls God’s Word His Seed (Mat 13:23, Mark 4:14, 1 Peter 1:23). Then guess what a natural man’s sperm is called in the Bible? Male sperm is called his seed (Lev 12:2, Lev 15:6). Are you beginning to see the parallels given to us in the Bible between these two subjects? This is obviously a very complex concept to understand for some because they are only thinking naturally. When you think only naturally as you attempt to interpret the Bible you are thinking as an enemy of God the Bible says (Rom 8:7).
So you can search your New Testament and see that the word “know” is used frequently when discussing God’s relationship to the church. But, it is also a two way street type of relationship; we strive to know God and then God knows us. You can see these in verses like John 17:3, Eph 1:17, 2 Pet 1:8, 1 John 4:2, 4:6 and 1 John 5:20 to give you a head start in your Bible study search.
There are many scripture verses in the N.T. that also teach that saved people in the church are “In Christ” and conversely that “Christ is in us”. This is just another example of this two way intimate relationship street that I was referring to earlier. You can find verses like this in Romans 8:10-11, 1 Cor 1:6, 1 Cor 3:1, 2 Cor 1:21, 2 Cor 13:5, Gal 4:19, Col 1:27, 1 Th 1:1, 1 Th 1:12, Php 1:6 and 1 Peter 5:14. What these verses say is that we are in Christ and that Christ is also in us simultaneously. What I am attempting to do with all of these verse references is to demonstrate to you using God’s spiritual Words that the church is in a spiritual intimate sexual type relationship with God. That I know is not very religious sounding for sure. But, nevertheless it is what the Bible says and clearly implies. like a human male knows his wife and she knows him, Jesus knows us and we know Jesus. This is how it is possible for the church to get pregnant spiritually speaking.
BIBLE SPIRITUA BIRTH EXAMPLE
What I want to do next is to demonstrate to you that a spiritual woman can become pregnant and give birth to spiritual children using verses found in the Bible. By doing this analysis of the Bible to confirm that it has happened before, means that it can happen again. I want to introduce you to a woman named in the Bible as the “Heavenly Jerusalem”. I have talked about her in several other Bible lessons so this is not something new for many of my faithful readers. However, this woman is extremely important to see as an example of how a spiritual city of God’s doing can be named by God as a woman who gives spiritual birth. Let’s start by reading in Galatians 4:22:
Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
What God does is something that is very profound. God takes the real and accurate story of Abraham and uses it to teach us a greater and higher spiritual lesson about Himself. We will soon learn in verse 24 that God calls this story an “allegory”. An allegory is always a real natural historical event with real people that reflect a type of a hidden spiritual parallel truth. I had one very ignorant minister write me an email that God does not use allegory and that allegory was an invention of the medieval dark ages. He must have learned this falsehood at the cemetery, I mean seminary. This minister obviously did not know how to read because God says right here in this chapter of Galatians that He does use allegories and that they are very important to understand correctly. So let’s continue looking at the story of Abraham and see what God reveals to us.
If you did not realize it father Abraham is being used as a type of God the Father. This verse in Galatians 4:22 says God had more than one son, did you know that? Obviously a lot of ignorant NIV Bible translators did not know this, for they interpret God’s only begotten son (Jo 3:16) to be “God’s One and Only Son”. I guess I won’t go there today any more than I already have. Next in this chapter God says this:
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
So now we start to learn some really new things about God. According to this verse and others going forward we can see that God the Father had two covenant wives. Remember that this natural story is an allegory and keep that all in mind as you study it. We have the one wife mentioned as being a type of Sarah, the freewoman. But first, we have another woman mentioned being a type of Hagar, called the slave woman. These are mentioned in reference order from last to first covenant wife based upon the story and I’ll talk more about this soon. These are clearly two different women that produce two different children. Therefore, they are both directly and indirectly called “mothers”. A mother is a woman who has given birth to a child, so this is not complicated just totally new stuff to many who have never studied it.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
So we are just getting deeper and deeper and I hope you came ready to swim, otherwise you are about to drown in the deep end of the pool. God tells us that these are two covenants. If we know that God the Father is a type of Abraham we know that God is revealing some information that is shockingly new to most people who study the Bible. You see God is not talking about Jesus’ covenant with the church here at all and that will definitely put a major kink in your religious theology.
Most every Christian realizes that the Bible is divided into the Old and New Testaments and surely you know that the word “Testament” means “Covenant”. So our Bibles automatically tell us that God divided His written Holy Word into two separate intimate relationships. One is with the Old Testament nation of Israel and one is with the New Testament church. However, it is impossible for these to be the covenants that God is talking about using the information that we learn about from this allegory. You can clearly see in Galatians 4:24 that God starts telling us that one of these covenants is with a woman who is a type of Hagar who bears a son named Ishmael for Abraham. Let’s read the next verse for more information on who this allegorical bond woman represents:
Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
God tells us very clearly that the slave woman Hagar represents the current Earthly city of Jerusalem and this corresponds to the covenant given to Moses on Mt Sinai. Right here we have a major puzzle being presented to us and this is a very complex situation to resolve. If you do not think so, then why was this riddle not solved a long time ago? What we can see is that the Old Covenant given to Israel in the Old Testament is the marriage of God to a nation of natural people and God calls her a type of Hagar because she is still in bondage with her children. What is the nation of Israel in bondage to? The answer is the law of God! These are the people who are still forced to keep the commandments of God in order for them to obtain righteousness and this causes them to remain in bondage since none of them are able to do it.
I did not mean to get into so much detail about the Galatians 4 women in this lesson on the woman in Revelation 12, but it is important enough for you to clearly understand that I am just going to have to do it anyway. What we learn about one woman in the Bible will normally apply to the subject of other women found in the Bible. However this woman is qualified differently because she is a bond woman and the other is declared to be a free woman. A free woman is simply the antithesis of a bond woman meaning she is free from ALL COMMANDMENTS OF LAW.
So let’s get back to the women in Galatians 4. If Hagar is a type of the Old Testament wife of God, then Sarah the significantly older woman must represent a covenant that existed prior to Hagar coming into Abraham’s family as a slave. If you study the story of Abraham and Sarah, Sarah was said to be a much older mature woman than Hagar. Hagar is described as being an Egyptian woman and Abraham and Sarah went to Egypt many years after they were married. Sarah was also Abraham’s ½ sister and thus we have some more perplexing complexity to consider. So if Abraham marries his ½ sister and then many years later leaves his father house to go to Egypt, we must conclude that Hagar who was a much younger woman is a covenant that occurs some time later in Abraham’s life. So logically we have to conclude that the covenant that God is referring to here in this chapter of Galatians is a covenant that He had entered into long before the one that He made with the people of Israel on the earth.
Also keep in mind that Sarah was always called the barren woman who was unable to have children. According to the Bible this is why Sarah gives Hagar to her husband to have a son. Anyway this part of the allegory is not that complex, however it is totally new stuff to many so it will be hard to accept. Here is the next verse that I wanted to get to about Sarah the free woman:
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Here we have another woman named “Jerusalem” but she is called the “Jerusalem which is above”. Obviously this is a completely different city than Jerusalem below that now is. So we can also automatically know that she exists in the spiritual realm, being labeled “above”. This woman has to be a spiritual reality and she is inferred to be a type of the allegorical Sarah who was barren. So Sarah must represent a pre-existing covenant of God the Father to someone spiritual not here on the earth.
Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
You can see more clearly who this spiritual woman was by reading in Hebrews 12:22 where God tell us that this city is called the “Heavenly Jerusalem” and that this city consisted of an innumerable company of angels. Notice the parallel between the Jerusalem below being tied to Mt Sinai and the Jerusalem above being tied to Mt Zion. This is certainly no accident.
We can deduce logically that Jerusalem Above and Heavenly Jerusalem are synonymous names for the same city. What we can logically conclude is that God was in covenant with the angels and that this heavenly city was a spiritual relationship that existed prior to God’s relationship with the nation of Israel who was a type of Hagar. This logically makes sense to me based upon what I have learned from studying the Bible. Of course there are more things that I could teach you from this simple allegory given to us in Galatians 4, but I do not have the time or space to do that today.
What I have done is shown you a city named Heavenly Jerusalem that God calls the spiritual mother of the church (mother of us all). We clearly understand that the mother must be a spiritual reality since Jesus taught us that, “that which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). We therefore, know that this spiritual mother (woman) pre-existed prior to the creation or birth of the church in order to have us as her spiritual children in order to fit the allegorical pattern given to us as the barren Sarah.
Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
God quotes another Old Testament prophet named Isaiah (54:1) here and reveals to us some more of the mysteries of these two women and covenants in the Bible. These are presented to us as a small part of a much greater, elaborate and perplexing puzzle or riddle from God. Reading in Isaiah 54:1 this barren woman is told to sing, rejoice and shout for joy because she has finally given birth to the promised children of God. It is very interesting to note that the Greek word translated as “travail” in this verse is only found 3 times in the N.T. That is certainly not a coincidence by far, for you see that word occurs two times here in Galatians 4 and once in Rev 12:2.
Gal 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
The is the only other verse in Galatians 4 where God selects the Greek word translated as “travail” and it says Paul is travailing in birth until Christ is formed in them that this letter is written to. You obviously know that Paul was a male apostle of the early church, so how can this man give birth to anything or anyone? It is not physically possible, so it must be only spiritually possible. That is the mystery being revealed to us. According to God church members can give spiritual birth to a spiritual being in other people. This confirms that the church is a spiritual female who can give birth to Christ in others.
The verse of prophecy in Gal 4:27 has a lot more complex information in it but again I just cannot get into today. If you go and read some of my other blogs you might see some of the clues that I have revealed. Here is the last verse in Galatians 4 that I will talk about:
Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
This verse basically says what I have been trying to say in previous paragraphs. This verse calls us (the church) the children of the “Heavenly Jerusalem” a type of Isaac who was the promised son to Abraham and Sarah from God. Do you understand how amazing this story is? God promises Abraham a son through Sarah and it turns out to be a type of Jesus and the church. This further implies that every child born under the Old Covenant bondage woman of Hagar is not the promised seed so they will be cast out of God’s house as the story teaches us in Genesis 21:10 and is repeated in Galatians 4:30. According to God’s Word naturally born children will not be the heirs with the free children spiritually born children. Wow, that is bad news for the natural nation of Israel. God clearly calls the nation of Israel the Ishmael’s of the world today. This I know will be pretty difficult stuff to grasp for many Christians.
What I have demonstrated to you is very clear Bible evidence that a spiritual woman can give birth and have spiritual children. Logically we can make the following spiritual conclusions based upon our knowledge of naturally created things and the verses that we have just studied:
- A Spiritual woman can give birth to a spiritual child.
- There must have been a spiritual conception in order for there to be a spiritual child.
- In order for a spiritual conception to occur, spiritual knowledge (Word of God) must have been exchanged.
- In order for a spiritual woman to conceive a Spiritual Father is also required.
- God is always the Spiritual Father in His covenant marriage.
If you understand the Bible and covenants better now, you know that God the Father was in covenant with the spiritual angels in heaven prior to making a covenant with the nation of Israel on the earth. This knowledge helps us to better understand why God created our world, Adam and Eve, and had a son named Jesus who came to make a New Covenant with us in the church. Because the New Covenant is now with the risen Son of God, God the Father tells us that the Old Covenants with Israel and the angels have been terminated (Romans 7:4). This also is exactly why the Bible says that Satan should not have crucified the Lord of Glory on the cross (1 Cor 2:8).
I have given more than enough evidence found in the Bible that the church qualifies to be the spiritual woman in Revelation 12 who gives birth to a spiritual son. I hope and pray that you have enjoyed studying about this subject and who knows I will probably write more on it later. God Bless you until next time.
(Ver 1.1) Just when I thought I had concluded this series, the Lord God shows me something new. If you have not been reading this series from the beginning I would strongly suggest that you go back to Part 1 and start there. If you have been following the series, then this is just some new insight into scriptures that we have already seen. It is amazing how God can reveal something new even after you have read it for 100 times. Reading is not understanding. Reading is not seeing. Seeing involves understanding, but it is with your spirit and not your mind. The natural mind of man will never know the things of God. That is why so many people read the Bible and never see what it says. I’ve even seen many ministers read Bible verses and then go off on a tangent about what they thought they just read. That is the nature of the Bible, you have to stick with it and read it over and over, until you see it correctly. Many times that requires a time period to renew your mind and clean out the junk that is clouding your spiritual vision. Eliminating the preconceived ideas and prejudices that you possess will help you to see the Bible more clearly, but this is not very easy to do. Satan builds strongholds in people’s minds and as a result they do not see the truth even though it is presented to them clearly. Too many Christians have two good eyes, but never use them to see anything.
I have spent a considerable effort in trying to show you the true identity of the symbolic woman in Revelation 12. I have provided what I think is overwhelming scriptural evidence that the woman in Revelation 12 is the church. That means the child that she is said to deliver cannot be Jesus Christ. I’ve given you substantial logic and reasoning why this child is not Jesus and this woman is not Israel or Mary. If you keep studying it for yourself you will have to agree. I know there will be some that simply choose to shut their eyes and refuse to know the truth and I can’t do anything to help them. I had one commenter that said what I said was simply just my opinion. How unfortunate it is that people cannot tell the difference between Bible verses and someone’s opinion of what they might mean. If you can read and understand what I have said with your spirit, you would see that what I have written is the truth and not my opinion. Today I want to discuss verses 4 and 5 of Revelation 12 again giving you some new perspectives in what they say:
Rev 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Here we have a verse that states, Satan caused 1/3 of the stars to fall from heaven. These stars are symbolic references to angelic beings. We know that the dragon is a symbolic reference to Satan. This chapter is packed with symbolic references for spiritual individuals and truths. We are not given the exact timing of this verse within our history or it could be a prophetic event that will soon occur. We do know that as of the book of Job, Satan and his angels still appeared before the throne of God in heaven to discuss Job. So it would be fair to assume that this action of sweeping them from heaven would occur later. We also know that Jesus said “I saw Satan fall as lightning” (Luke 10:18). So apparently Satan was thrown down to the earth during some time period prior to Jesus being born on this planet. This means that Satan could have swept 1/3 of the angels with him at that time. But I do not know that for sure, maybe you have an idea or a scripture that can shed some more light on this subject. I’m open to hear Bible verses that I haven’t seen yet. I do know that Revelation 4:1 says that the things written after that verse were suppose to be future prophetic events, so based upon that information I technically believe that the sweeping of 1/3 of the angels has not occurred. Then the last part of this verse says that Satan is poised to devour this child as soon as it is born. We know from Biblical accounts that Satan has always tried to kill, steal and destroy God’s children. Starting with Able, then Moses and even Jesus. Why does Satan want to kill this child so badly?
If you recall from an earlier blog discussions I showed you that this child has to be either a natural child with a natural mother or it has to be a spiritual child with a spiritual mother. This is clearly based upon the statements that Jesus made in John when he said that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. We can therefore logically surmise that this child is not Jesus and this woman is not Israel based upon this statement alone. But let us go into these verses in Revelation and see what else they say to us.
Rev 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
So we see in this verse that the symbolic woman gives birth to a male child. It then declares that this child is to rule all nations with a rod of iron. Let’s stop right there and determine something, can this child be Jesus? Is Jesus still a child? Was Jesus caught up to the throne of God right after being born as a child like this verse says? I think these are all relevant questions to ask and none of them apply to Jesus. I hope you can begin to see the difficulty with saying this child is Jesus. Jesus is not a child any more, He is a bridegroom. Jesus Christ was not immediately caught up to heaven after being born because He grew up and matured here on earth for 33 years before being killed by Satan and Israel. Then Jesus was never “caught up” to the throne of God. Here is the Greek word used for “caught up” from the Strong’s:
From a derivative of G138; to seize (in various applications): – catch (away, up), pluck, pull, take (by force)
You can see clearly from this definition that this is an action of someone that is taken by force from the earth. The would be representative as if you are pulling a plant from the ground like a weed is pulled up. It is purposeful, direct and an intentional action being described and Jesus was never taken up in this way. Then I go back to the reference that the child is taken up as a child. This further disqualifies Jesus with these descriptive terms. Jesus was a child at one time, but he grew up and became a mature man. This word for “caught up” occurs some 13 times in the New Testament and it is never used to describe Jesus ascension into heaven. This word for “caught up”, is used to describe a rapture like events where people are forcibly removed or taken up without warning. This would not describe Jesus ascension either since Jesus was surrounded by followers when he went up. There were many witnesses to Jesus ascending into heaven and there was no forced exit. There are just so many things to learn and we should dig deeper until we fully understand these words.
I will say it again, that I believe this child is God or the Spirit of God. If the woman is the church as I have shown you using the Bible, then she is a spiritual woman who can give birth to a spiritual child. That which is born of the spirit is spirit. That would make Jesus the “Everlasting Father” of this spiritual child. That would also make this child the heir to everything. As I described from the book of Ruth, the purpose of Boaz marrying the gentile woman Ruth was to raise up an heir for the dead husband. So who died? God died in Jesus Christ and was the firstborn from all of the dead of the earth. Jesus Christ the risen Lord and Savior implements a New Covenant and marries His sister. I know I just lost a bunch of people with that statement, but you have to think if you want to figure out the Bible. You also have to read. If you look through the Song of Solomon you will find at least 3 or 4 times the woman that Solomon is infatuated with, is called his sister as well as his wife and lover. I know in the natural this would not be normal for or acceptable for you to marry your sister. Nevertheless I’m just reading the Bible. There are a lot of things in the Bible that are not normal and acceptable to the religious minded. I strongly suggest you get your Bible search software and look for the word “sister” in the Song of Solomon. You will probably be shocked that it is there recorded for us to read. Solomon was a type of Jesus Christ. He demonstrated a natural pattern for a spiritual reality. Solomon built God a temple in Jerusalem.
Act 7:47 But Solomon built him an house.Act 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
According to the Bible David his father was not allowed to build the temple. These are all patterns for God and His son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, the son of the living God was born in the earth to build God a spiritual temple in the New Jerusalem. If you don’t believe that you should read your New Testament and see how many verses speak that we are the temple of God. We are described as a living building with living blocks and stones within the spiritual house designed for God’s eternal dwelling place. So we can clearly understand that Solomon is a type of Christ. We can clearly see by reading the Song of Solomon that this book represents a love story. This love story is a picture of Christ and the church, His bride and wife. We can clearly see that this book says Solomon’s woman that he loves is called his sister. You can if you want to, write this off or you can take it literally as I do.
If Solomon marries his sister whom he loves, then Christ would also marry his sister whom He loves. One is a natural pattern the other a spiritual reality. You can wonder how I arrived at this conclusion, but it is really very logical and extremely scriptural if you learn to read. Jesus Christ is called the firstborn from the dead. That means there is a second born, a third born, a fourth born, and on and on. Who are all of these spiritual siblings of Jesus Christ the firstborn? They would have to be either His brothers or His sisters. But, in studying the Bible I found that both males and females can be called a woman in covenant with God. The natural nation of Israel was a pattern of this spiritual reality. The Old Covenant wife of God was a natural nation of people which consisted of both males and females, but God called them all his wife.
I showed you earlier in a different blog, that the spiritual mother of Jesus and the church was the “heavenly Jerusalem”. This spiritual city is called the mother of all that have been born from the dead. This would make all of us, Jesus and the church siblings with the same spiritual mother and father. But, as God did with the natural nation of Israel, Jesus Christ the initiator of the New Covenant also marries a spiritual nation of people who consist of both males and females. The natural nation of Israel was a natural nation of people which originated from 12 natural brothers. The spiritual nation of Israel was a spiritual nation of people that originated from 12 spiritual brothers. The natural nation of Israel was circumcised in their flesh, the spiritual nation of Israel is circumcised in their hearts. The natural nation of Israel was captive in Egypt for 400 years. While the Spiritual Nation of Israel was captive to the world of sin and Satan for 4000 years. The natural nation of Israel sacrificed lambs for atonement of their sins. Jesus Christ the lamb of God, sacrificed himself one time for all of our sins. These are just a few of the patterns found in the Bible that you will discover are invaluable when you are attempting to understand this spiritual Book of Truths. You might not see all of them yet, but I have to tell you that you don’t know everything that I know yet so I would not throw it away just yet. I know you can’t afford to follow every crazy Blog that is out there. I would suggest that you just go back and read and study these things that I just described to you and see if they are true for yourself. DO NOT take my word for anything. If what you believe is not based upon your direct knowledge of what is in the Bible, you are in trouble. You will be an easy target for the enemy to come along and deceive you with something that is not in the Bible.
I listened to a well known television preacher today teaching on the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 as being Israel. He preached the message with such conviction and such authority that I could tell that he truly thought this woman in Revelation 12 was Israel. He gave a lot of sound reasoning of why he thought this way and I listened carefully to all of it. However, after studying it from what I knew in the Bible I immediately threw it away. He simply did not see the truth yet. If I named his name, you would know who I was talking about, so I won’t do that. You see I do not fault him for teaching what he thinks is the truth. I do think that he needs to study a lot more and find out some other things and see what else the Bible really has to say. Here is a mistake that many make, they get so focused into a few words that they think they know, that they totally ignore the other words that are right in front of them. You see I did not disagree with any of the scriptures that he read, just his interpretation of them. Men’s private interpretations will cause them more grief down the road when they finally do see there is more to learn. We all have so much more to learn. If you have not been very observant you might not have noticed that I do not give you my opinion. I use scripture verses that help to explain other scripture verses. You might still call this my opinion, but I would definitely disagree. You see if I use God’s word to explain God’s word, I am much closer to the true meaning than anyone who doesn’t use this method of Bible Interpretation.
In reviewing my posts I realized I left this post out of the series on the identity of the woman in Revelation 12. I apologize for being human and making this mistake. If you have read the other blogs on this subject this one will probably help you to see the others.
I knew this subject would take a lot of blogging to get people to really understand it. This is now my fourth blog on the identity of the woman in Revelation 12. There is really so much more to explore and so many questions to answer. Why is the woman pregnant? Who is the child? If you haven’t read from the beginning I would strongly recommend that you go to the beginning and start with Part 1. I try to write and teach using progressive revelation, truth, that builds upon truth. This means if you missed the beginning you missed the foundation to all the other building blocks. I don’t claim to have all of the answers, but I’ll tell you what I do know and maybe you can help me figure out the rest with God’s help. In my last blog I talked about the moon in relation to being under the feet of the woman. I showed scriptures that spoke about the church bruising the head of the serpent. I talked about Jesus delegating the authority to the church to tread on, walk over the serpent who is Satan. I then showed how Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, waiting for His enemies to be made his footstool. All of these are scriptural references and pointers to the identity of the woman in Revelation 12.
Along these same lines I want to readdress something that I left hanging to some extent. I talked about the “seed of the woman” in Genesis 3:15 as possibly being a spiritual seed. I cannot say with all certainty that this is accurate. I need further study and research to find scriptures on this. When I find something, I will include it in a future blog. But for now I want to show you one thing that I found absolutely fascinating and completely related to the subject of the identity of the woman. In Revelation 12, the very first verse is about the woman and the very last verse is also about the same woman. Let’s look at it for what it reveals to us:
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Same woman, right? Sure it is! Did you notice what it says? This verse starts with a statement that declares Satan to be very angry with the woman. The statement or word is actually “wroth” and it means to be enraged. That really sounds like “enmity” and “hatred” to me? I know it is a different word but it conveys a meaning of hatred toward an enemy. We then see within the context of this verse that Satan is at war with the woman. Again this signifies an adversary relationship. Satan and the woman are direct enemies against each other. The next statement is absolutely essential to see, “and went to make war with the remnant of her seed”. Did you notice that I have been talking about the “seed of the woman”? In my last blog we saw scripture from Genesis that God prophesies that Satan will be at odds with a woman and her seed. Isn’t that what Genesis 3:15 said? I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between her seed and your seed? Fascinating isn’t it? Here we have a specific mention to the “seed of the woman” again and this time it is in clear context and relationship to the woman in Revelation 12. I concluded from this that the woman, that God was talking about in Genesis 3:15 is the same woman that we see in Revelation 12. This must be the same woman that God was talking about in Genesis 3:15, don’t you agree? Now how does this verse end? Who does this verse say the woman is? This verse gives us two very specific qualifications for the identity of the woman. These are two distinguishing characteristics that must be applied correctly to figure out the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 and here they are:
- Those who keep the commandments of God
- Those who have the Testimony of Jesus Christ
I don’t know how you can read these statements and not know who that is talking about. There is absolutely NO WAY that natural Israel has ever qualified for either of those two characteristics. Certain individuals in natural Israel may have tried to follow the commands of God, but I don’t recall any of them following Jesus Christ, unless you consider the 12 apostles of the Lamb who started the Church of Jesus Christ. Then there is this verse in the middle of the chapter that is also related to the identity of the woman:
Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
When I read this verse, I see the church described as an overcoming, victorious body of believers. Those that have received the Lamb of God as savior and Lord. Those that have applied and appropriated the blood of the Lamb to the doorposts of their hearts. When someone is described as having overcome something, that denotes a clear victory and someone else’s ominous defeat. Here we have another picture of a woman with the moon (Satan) under her feet. Currently there is still just one woman in the Bible that qualifies to be this woman and it still is only the church! How many scriptures in the New Testament can you recall that speak of the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ?
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
1Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
There are just a representative sampling of verses in the Bible that speak of the work of the blood of Jesus for his church. Understanding the power of the blood of Jesus is an essential part of a successful walk with Christ. Knowing what the blood of the Lamb purchased is critical to knowing who you are in Christ. Understanding the purpose of the blood of Christ is essential to a successful earthly Christian life. Seeing these verses I can see a direct relationship to the descriptive qualities of the woman in Revelation 12:11.
Finally, here is what the Bible says in relation to the qualifications of the identity of the woman described in Rev 12:17:
1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
We can see from these verses that the Church has been directed to keep God’s commandments. They all say something like, if you love me you will keep my commandments. This is how we know we love God, because we keep his commandments. We know of course that this does not mean that the Church is suppose to keep the law of Moses, but the new law of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us that all the law is summarized in two statements. Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and then love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus gave the church a new commandment to love one another. This new commandment replaces all of the Old Testament law. If you love your neighbor you are not going to steal from them, you are not going to cheat them, you are not going to commit adultery with their spouse, you are not going to do anything that will harm them or cause them pain, emotionally, physically, mentally or spiritually. This is the law of LOVE! So let’s look at scriptures concerning those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, who could this describe?
1Co 1:6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
2Ti 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Here are just a few of the scriptures related to those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ. We can see that the testimony of Jesus Christ was confirmed in the church members of Corinth. We can see Paul’s instruction to Timothy for him not be ashamed of the testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then in Revelation 1:9 we can see that John was imprisoned on Patmos for having the testimony of Jesus Christ. Finally in Revelation 19:10 in context with the description of the New Jerusalem, the bride of the Lamb, the angel of the Lord tells John not to worship him, but worship God with his brothers that also have the Testimony of Jesus Christ.
So we have seen numerous scriptures that indicate directly and indirectly that the church are the ones that keep God’s commandments and keep the testimony of Jesus Christ. So we can see from all of these descriptive elements that this certainly narrows the potential identities of the woman in Revelation 12 to only one woman. Using the Word of God to explain the Word of God is the key to understanding the Bible. Perhaps in my next blog I will attempt to take on the biggest challenge so far, the identity of the child.
If you would like to continue reading this series, you can go to Part 5.
(Ver 1.1) This is now Part 8 in the series of lessons of “The True Identity of the Woman in REvelation 12”. If you have not been following this blog series from the beginning I would strongly recommend that you start at the beginning and read “Part 1“. I know there are still many who are struggling with what I have shown you in the Word of God. It is so difficult to get people to see new things. They have been taught the woman in Revelation 12 is Israel and the man child is Jesus by so many people. Men have stood up and taught this like it was the truth and obviously that is what they believed. However, I have given you overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Yet still people like their traditions better than the Word of God. Paul and the apostles had to deal with this attitude and this attitude still exists in the hearts of many today. I welcome you to find me wrong, study the Bible for yourself and discover the truth. DO NOT take my word for anything, you look it up in the Bible and see if that is what God is saying to you. I thought that my last blog would be the last blog on this subject but I decided to help skeptics a little bit more. You see there are many Old Testament scriptures that I didn’t cover. I primarily focused on what the New Testament said, but the New gives us insight into the Old and vice versa. So let me continue this subject with some more Old Testament scriptures that I was told are related to the woman’s identity in Revelation 12. Let’s look at some verses in the fourth chapter of Micah, from the prophet of God:
Mic 4:10 Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
So who is this woman in labor? Who is the child that she brings forth? These are fascinating verses, but ones that are so easily misunderstood. If you have been reading the blogs on this subject I am going to be forced to repeat myself in order to explain the identity of this woman found in Micah. Most Christians automatically associate Zion and Jerusalem to natural Israel. However, I have given you numerous scriptures that have shown you there are 3 cities called Jerusalem. Perhaps I need to explain them again.
Start by asking yourself this question? Who are the children of Jerusalem? Focus on the children of the city and not the city of Jerusalem. We could of course say it is the Jews. That would be correct if we were talking about the natural earthly city of Jerusalem. But, who said that was the city that God was talking about? You see people often times get into trouble by assuming too much, too fast. There are three different cities in the Bible all called Jerusalem and here they are again:
- Earthly Jerusalem
- Heavenly Jerusalem
- New Jerusalem
So when you read a verse of scripture about a city called Jerusalem you need to first ask God which one He is talking about. All three of these cities represent Women in the family of God. These are all separate, unique and distinct cities. Everyone of these cities represent a different covenant relationship with God and a different family. Children of the natural earthly Jerusalem are the natural Jewish people found on the earth still today.
Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
These are the words of Jesus speaking about the earthly city of Jerusalem. He speaks to her in terms of being a woman with children. These are the natural children of the Jewish people that he was bringing the message of God to. These are the children that mostly rejected the message and killed him. What I want you to see from this verse is a woman with children. Now let’s move on to the heavenly Jerusalem.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Now we see a direct contrast given to us. This woman in Galatians is said to be a free woman. Her location is given to us as being somewhere above this planet. By reading the context of this verse we can see it is compared to the earthly Jerusalem who is the woman that is in bondage. We can determine from these verses in Galatians that there are two distinct and separate cities, both called Jerusalem and both as we have seen are stated as having had children. In fact the heavenly Jerusalem is said to be the mother of the church. We can ascertain from that by simple logic that the heavenly Jerusalem is not the church. We can see by further analysis of Galatians that the earthly Jerusalem is said to be a type of Hagar and that they heavenly Jerusalem is said to be a type of Sarah. If you understand the story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar you know that Sarah was much, much older than the slave woman Hagar. We can therefore conclude by using logic again that this heavenly Jerusalem existed prior to the establishment of the earthly Jerusalem came into existence. Are you following all of this? This is important stuff.
The Bible speaks about a new heaven and a new earth being created by God. These verses also speak about the old heaven and old earth passing away. Why is it necessary for God to do away with the old and start over? It is a very perplexing question to ponder. Nonetheless, that is what the Bible describes to us. So I told you there were three cities in the Bible called Jerusalem so let’s find out about that one:
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
We can clearly see a revelation of God being described to us in this chapter. Here is the new Jerusalem, a city coming down from God. This city is also a woman who is adorned for her husband. We can see from this that there is an implied marriage. So let’s start by asking who is the husband?
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the lamb is come, and his bride hath made herself ready.
We can see in the Bible that the husband is the lamb of God. Jesus of course is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. I’ve heard several ministers try to teach that since the church is the body of Christ, if Jesus has a bride then we have a bride also. They try to place the church into the same class and gender as God. You know the term bride of Christ technically doesn’t exist in the Bible. No you see in Revelation it describes the bride as being the Lamb’s wife. I don’t know about you but I have never heard the church called the Lamb of God, have you? No, you see the church is not the groom, the church is the bride. Here is what Jesus said on the subject of the identity of the bride:
Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Here we see Jesus speaking to the church, saying those that overcome He will write the name of this city called, the New Jerusalem. If you don’t understand that statement. I really can’t help you I guess. The church is the New Jerusalem. The church is the bride and wife of the Lamb of God. The church is in covenant with Jesus. A covenant in the eyes of God is a marriage. God being the male, the people in covenant being the female. This is how it worked in the Old Covenant and this is how it works in the New Covenant.
So who is the mother of the church? It is the heavenly Jerusalem according to Galatians 4:26. So who is the church? The church is the bride of the Lamb. We can then logically deduce that the church is the daughter of the heavenly Jerusalem. Where have we seen that term before? Daughter of Jerusalem occurs several times in the Old Testament in fact it occurs directly describing the woman in labor in Micah 4:8:
Mic 4:8 And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
So who is the daughter of Zion? Who is the daughter of Jerusalem? It is the daughter of Jerusalem that is said to be in labor and not the mother Jerusalem. Do you understand that statement? Do you see that there is a difference between these two women? If Jerusalem was pregnant, then she could be giving birth to a son or a daughter, but it says the daughter of Jerusalem is pregnant and she is about to give birth. That is a different woman than those who have said this is Israel in Revelation 12. If the woman in Revelation 12 is Israel, it would have said in Micah that Jerusalem is about to give birth. It is critical that you understand who God is saying to be pregnant.
Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
This statement written to the church of Jesus Christ informs us that we have come from Mt Zion, we are from the city of the living God called the heavenly Jerusalem. The Heavenly Jerusalem is our mother, we are the daughter of the heavenly Jerusalem. It also informs us that our mother is a spiritual mother, a city of spiritual beings. Mary gave birth to Jesus, some 2000 years ago, the heavenly Jerusalem started giving birth to the church some 2000 years ago. We can see from Revelation 12 that this is a prophetic birth that has not yet occurred. This birth according to the prophet Micah is of the woman called the daughter of Jerusalem or we could also call her the New Jerusalem. There is still so much to learn, if we open our hearts to the truth and let God teach us. I know these lessons have been new and dramatically different than anything you have ever heard before. I know they are from God and not from me, so if you choose to reject them you are rejecting God and not me. I have never been smart enough to think this stuff up.
If you would like to continue reading blogs in this series, you can go to “Part 9“.
(Ver 1.1) This is now my seventh blog on this subject and I hope you have been following it from the beginning. If not go to the beginning and start with Part 1, before you try to read this blog. It will make much more sense if you take them in order. In my last blog I scripturally pursued evidence for if the Bible says anywhere that Jesus could be a spiritual father and have spiritual children. You see if it says in the Bible anywhere that Jesus doesn’t have children or simply does not say, then we would have no basis for the woman in Revelation 12 being the church. I believe I showed you a few good scriptures in my last blog that Jesus can and does have a spiritual family and that this spiritual family can have spiritual children. One of these scriptures was a popular Christmas card verse about Jesus being called the “Everlasting Father” in Isaiah 9:6. I then brought up this point. Why would God need to qualify the noun “father” with the adjective “everlasting”? Here we have a noun (father) being modified using an adjective called “everlasting”. I thought God the Father was the Everlasting Father? Everlasting means eternal or the one that lasts forever. The implication from that qualification is that God the Father is not the Eternal Father, Jesus is. I don’t know everything, I just read and study the best that I know how. I stay open to God and if He wants to teach me something about a verse I just try to listen. So I try to stay open and pay close attention to every word that is written.
Today, I want to take a turn and explore this subject from a completely different angle. So many times God when he answers prayer He does so in a way that we were not expecting. God gives us the answer to the prayer, but usually in a way that was different than what we would have done, or the way that we would have like it to be done. This is a lot of the time, the trouble with our Bible study techniques. Instead of studying a subject from God’s perspective we want the Bible to fit our idea of the way it should be. But, we soon discover that God if he wanted us to know everything clearly could have written the Bible that way. However, since God wrote the Bible in a concealed manner we must learn to work with what He has given to us. In doing this we soon learn that we need to change how we think. God is not like us, His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. But that does not mean that we cannot change to learn His ways and think His thoughts. It just takes a renewing of our mind to know and understand the things of God.
I will start this blog by saying that the child in Revelation 12 is God. Every male child in the family of God is always God. Every female in the family of God is always the people in covenant with God. So if a spiritual woman has a spiritual male child it can only be God. I just gave you some very basic concepts of spiritual things that I know I did not explain scripturally. Right now you will have to trust that I know what I’m talking about. If you keep reading my blogs we will eventually get there but it will take time.
So today I want to explore the Book of Ruth. The book of Ruth in the Old Testament has some absolutely fascinating information given to us in it. If you have never read this book perhaps you should do that now, before you continue with my blog. It is a short book, only 4 chapters so it will not take long to read through it and to gain a quick overview of it. To those who have read it and think they know what it is about, let me briefly recap. The primary subject of the book is a woman named Ruth. This woman is a gentile woman, not in covenant with God, not born into or of the nation of Israel. A gentile woman not in covenant with God, this is very important to understand. The book of Ruth starts with the story of a family from Bethlehem. Already we can see some parallels being developed. Where was Jesus born? Jesus was of course born in Bethlehem. The story of Ruth starts with this family from Bethlehem leaving their home because of a famine. Famine is a state of or the absence of natural food to eat. Natural food parallels spiritual food and gives us insight into a greater spiritual problem, but I won’t go there right now. Any way this family consisted of the following family members:
- Elimelech, the father
- Naomi, the mother
- Mahlon, a son
- Chilon, a son
This family of four members, rises up and moves to a place called Moab and settles down. There in that land the father dies and the two sons marry gentile women and they also die. Now we have a family that consists of nothing but three women who are left alone. A Jewish mother with two daughter-in-laws. One of the daughter-in-laws leaves and goes back to her family, but the other daughter-in-law made a wiser choice. This woman named Ruth said to her Jewish mother-in-law, where you go I will go, where you live I will live and your people shall be my people and your God will be my God. Ruth made a great choice and God honored her decision tremendously, by allowing her to become a great-great-grandmother of King David. There are only 4 women directly mentioned by name in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1 and Ruth is one of them. God bestowed a great honor upon this woman Ruth for trusting in His Word.
We can see a great story unfolding of a gentile woman not in covenant with God, speaking covenant words to be joined into the family of God. These words spoken are a pattern of another spiritual woman to come. In fact, all of these characters in this story I believe represent an allegory of a much higher spiritual reality. God is giving us a look into the spiritual realm by analyzing this story. This story is primarily about a gentile woman named Ruth and this woman is a type or pattern of the church. Her mother-in-law Naomi is a type or pattern of the Nation of Israel. Her Father-in-law is a type or pattern of God. Earlier I told you that males in a family always represent God, females represent women in covenant with God. In this story of Ruth, we see that the father as well as the sons all die. When Jesus died on the cross who really knew what this meant? Obviously Satan didn’t know. I do want to explore this subject, but I cannot do that without a huge study that would cause me to get off of our current subject, so I have to leave that for a future blog.
Now let me go into what Ruth is primarily about. You see everything that I said up until this point is just the introduction to the main subject found in Ruth. The main story line concerns the law of the kinsman redeemer. If you read chapter one of Ruth you saw Naomi make a statement to Ruth that she was too old to have children for Ruth to wait around and marry. You see in Jewish families if a son married a wife and died without children it was the responsibility of the nearest relative, a brother to marry the widow to raise up heirs for his dead brother. This is the foundational basis of the story of Ruth. What hope does Ruth have by hanging around her mother-in-law? Where does Ruth place her trust in for her destiny and future? Ruth is placing all of her trust in the law of God. God’s Word declared that a relative was responsible to come into the picture and marry the widow to have children. Notice what I just said? The reason for the marriage was to have children. This is so significant that you cannot even begin to image what it all means. Ruth is a type of the church, Boaz the kinsman redeemer is a type of Jesus Christ, our redeemer. Boaz takes Ruth the gentile to be his wife with a covenant of marriage for the purpose of having children and they become the great-great-grand-parents to King David. This is amazing stuff if you are understanding the implications. All of these concepts are found in the law in the book of Numbers and if you read through them closely you should begin to understand some of the spiritual implications to these words:
Num 27:6 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 27:7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
Num 27:8 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
Num 27:9 And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
Num 27:10 And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren.
Num 27:11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
You see God goes through a long discourse of how to distribute the inheritance of a family when the father dies. Who is our spiritual Father? Oh well I am sure I will have some say God the Father cannot die and I will not argue with you. You either see it or reject it, you choose. Any way in the law, if the father dies the inheritance begins to go to the children starting with the firstborn. Then if there are no children it is interesting to note that we start with the nearest relatives, uncles and then cousins. We can see a hierarchical order of inheritance being established. God is establishing a law of precedence in the natural realm to demonstrate how He will do something later in the spirit realm. I would like to ask those skeptics out there this question. Did you ever notice in the New Testament that we, the church are called the joint heirs with Christ? What is an heir? An heir is someone who inherits after someone else died. Get it? Uh oh? Who died to leave us an inheritance? What was that, which we inherited? How did this inheritance follow the law in Numbers that we just read. There are just so many questions to think about, isn’t there?
So the story of Ruth is a natural pattern to a much greater spiritual truth. We can see Ruth, who is the pattern of the church, marries the redeemer Boaz a pattern of Messiah in order to raise up children for the dead husband and father. Let me briefly give you some scriptures in Ruth that may help you to understand this story better:
Rth 4:3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s:
Rth 4:4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
It was the responsibility of the nearest relative to buy back the land that belonged to their family. In this verse, Boaz approaches a nearer relative to ask him to buy the land of their brother Elimelech. But as you read down you find this relative refuses, because it would mean that it would ruin his inheritance. You can see in verse 4 that Boaz tells this other relative that if he didn’t buy the land that he would do it, because there are no other relatives that can legally do it. But, did you notice the term “redeem”. “Redemption” is a New Testament term and work of Christ.
Rth 4:5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
You can see in this verse of Ruth the problem that the other relative is faced with. In order to redeem the land of Naomi, you must marry the gentile woman Ruth and have an heir for the dead relatives. This is the law of God given to the nation of Israel and it is very significant to the story of Jesus and the church.
So how does all of this relate to other scriptures in the Bible? I’ll end this blog with this related reference found in the New Testament:
Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Here we have a passage related to the law of marriage. These verses have widespread spiritual implications written all over them. Did you notice who they were written to? Paul writes these verses to those under the law. He actually says those that “know” the law (Rom 7:1). To “know” something is a statement related to a covenant relationship. I’ll try to do a blog in the future explaining that statement in more depth. We can see that Paul is writing these verses to his natural brothers of the nation of Israel. So while the book of Romans was written to the church, these verses pertain only to the natural Jews. It is very important to see this. The law stated that a woman who was married could not be married to another man as long as the first husband was alive or she would be called an adulteress. But, the woman whose husband is dead is free to marry another (Rom 7:3). So what does God say to those who were under the law? God told them that they are now free to marry another, and this one that they should marry is the one that God raised from the dead, Jesus Christ. Are you following the reasoning and logic of these statements? Because Jesus Christ was crucified, these verses claim that their former husband was killed or died. That is what Romans 7:4 is telling them. The crucifixion of Jesus now freed them from the law to be in covenant with the risen man Jesus Christ, the Son of God. A marriage to the Son and not the Father. We can clearly see that these verses do not apply to gentile believers because they were never under the law or in covenant with God. The gentiles were never in or under the law and therefore were free to be married to whomever they choose. However, the natural nation of Israel was given the law on Mt Sinai through Moses and this law established many boundaries that they are forced to abide with as long as they refuse to accept their Messiah. Let me briefly go back to the book of Ruth and tell you about a statement that Ruth makes that reveals to us the principal of these statements in Romans 7:
Rth 1:17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
Ruth makes a statement of truth that has widespread implications. You can see from the statement that death represents a dividing line. Death causes a separation of one connected person from another person. Only death can separate us, Ruth said. This is an incredible revelation if you apply it correctly and understand it fully. Ruth gives us a secret to how God will separate himself from Satan. Only by his death will the wife be freed from the law of her husband. Death represents a division between two connected individuals. Through death a legal separation occurs between two people who are in a marriage covenant. It is important to know that God does all things in a legal, orderly manner.
There is so much more that we could discuss about these verses, but I wanted to show you another set of verses that speak about God experiencing death for us. The death of Jesus has so much more meaning than we have ever imagined. That means we have an inheritance that must be distributed according to the law. Ruth is a story that has so many great truths in it, that I did not get to them all in this blog. Hopefully you will continue to study the book and see the other details that God reveals to us. For example, Boaz must go to a closer relative and ask him if he wants to marry the gentile woman. The closer relative refuses to marry Ruth because it will mess up his inheritance, so he thinks. Who is this closer relative representative of in the spiritual realm. How does this pattern fit into the redemptive work of Christ? Then there is this fact found again in the genealogy of Jesus. I told you earlier this list only contains the names of 3 or 4 women and they all have significance and meaning to Jesus. Boaz was a type of Jesus. Who is Boaz’s mother? Boaz is the son of Rahab the harlot. That is also significant in the typology analysis. Who was Jesus born of? Israel is also called a harlot in Old Testament books like Hosea. There are so many more things to consider. If you dig really deep you can find so many valuable truths.
So I have attempted to give you scriptures that show why the woman in Revelation 12 is pregnant and who this child is and why He must be delivered. The child in Revelation 12 has widely been taught to be Jesus Christ, but the typology and symbolism in the rest of the chapter does not fit the natural birth of the Messiah. So we have to look for spiritual truths and spiritual reasons to identify the male child and hopefully I have pointed you in the right direction. I know I did not cover everything in its entirety and I know there is absolutely no way that I could do that even if I wanted to. Only God knows everything and we only see things through a glass darkly and only truly understand what God wants us to understand, when He wants us to understand it. I believe that we have so much more to learn.
If you would like to continue reading this series of lessons, please go to “Part 8“.
(Ver 1.1) We have been exploring the identity of the woman in Revelation 12. In my last blog I know I left a lot of people hanging because I just couldn’t go into the detail that I needed to explain it thoroughly. It is very difficult and challenging to teach a subject that is highly complex and is so totally new to everyone. I feel I need to give Bible reasons for everything that I say and I only can do that in a limited time and space. So I try to balance not taking up too much of your time with getting enough details in to confirm everything that I say. If you are a pastor, I am sure you know what I am talking about. If you have not been following this series from the beginning, I would strongly recommend that you go back and start with Part 1.
So rather than rehashing my last blog, please allow me to approach this subject in a way that you might not expect. I think that if it is as we have seen that this woman in Revelation 12 is the church and if she is married and in covenant with the risen savior Jesus Christ, that we should determine if this man Jesus can have any spiritual children? I think you might be surprised to find that He can. Let us first start with some Bible basics. We know that Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the triune Godhead. The Trinity of God being comprised of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three unique personalities make up the One True Living God. Three personalities, but One God. Three manifestations of One God. So let’s start by confirming that God is called a Father in the Bible:
Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
We can clearly see that God is called the Father of spirits in this verse in Hebrews. We should immediately try to determine who are these spirits that God is said to be the Father of. By implication we can see that this verse at least implies that every spirit has their origin from God. We can say this includes every spirit of every man, woman and child on the planet. But, I would also say that this includes every angelic or demonic spirit that exists also. All of these are spirit beings, and had to originate from God, the Father of spirits. That to me is just basic logic. I think we also have to briefly examine the Biblical fact that Jesus the Son of God was born of a natural woman. So we can clearly see that God the Father can also have natural physical children. But because the Bible says in John 3:16 that Jesus was the “Only begotten Son” we know from the Greek word there that “begotten” means physically born. God is not going to have any more physical children, ever! Mary was the only virgin birth that God will ever participate in. So if God is said to be the Father of spirits, can the Son also be a Father of spirits? We know that Jesus was a natural male, and capable of having natural children in the normal way with a natural woman. But, just because some idiots have tried to say Jesus had sex with someone and fathered a child, do not be so easily deceived. Jesus never had any natural children on the earth. If he did we would be in serious trouble, there would be no possibility for salvation for us then. But, let us look at the other possibility. Can Jesus now in heaven, the second part of the Trinity now have a spiritual child and become a new Father God? I think that is an interesting concept to consider. Think of it this way, God created natural physical things as a view into the spiritual dimension. These natural things are shadows, types or patterns of spiritual things that we cannot see. These natural things point us to and give us glimpses into a realm of spiritual possibilities that we cannot see with our physical eyes or senses.
So what did God create in this world? Adam and Eve were the beginning of the human race and they had children and probably lots of them. Certainly, Cain and Abel came from Adam and Eve. These two first parents were patterns of spiritual things to come. God created the family of Adam and Eve as a separate and independent family unit from God’s family in Heaven. Adam was created as a pattern of a father to every natural living human being on this planet. Adam could be called the father of the human race. Whatever happens to Adam, happens to everyone that comes from Adam. Adam had a child and his son had a child. This is also a pattern of something else to come. There is a spiritual truth being implied here that anything that happens to God the Father happens to every spiritual descendant or male child of their spiritual Father. That was a major clue to why Satan should not have killed Jesus Christ, if you didn’t understand it, I’m sorry. I don’t have time to explain it right now. The current subject is about spiritual fathers and sons and can they have children. If God the Father can have children, then God the Son can also have children. This is just basic reasoning and logic based upon patterns we see from God’s creation. I do hope you are following my logic. But, let us take a look at what the Bible says, here are some interesting verses that pertain to our current subject:
Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
These verses in Ephesians gives us two valuable conformations, first that God is the Father and that He also has a family. God’s household is comprised of a family of spiritual beings in heaven. These are representative of the pattern that God implemented with Adam and Eve’s household and family household on the earth. A natural family with natural parents giving birth to natural children. All of these are patterns for spiritual truths concerning spiritual families.
Now let’s explore this logic scripturally and see if it holds water. We need to see if there are any scriptures that speak about Jesus being a father. Let’s start this analysis with this scripture in Hebrews:
Heb 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
When I read this verse I almost missed what it was saying. It is so interesting that I studied it for a long time until God showed me what it was really saying. You see this verse is speaking of Jesus our Lord, the Son of God. This verse declares that Jesus has established a new house. This is a new house that didn’t exist before. But what does it mean when it says house? A new house implies a new family. In fact if you look up the word “house” in the Strong’s you will find that it means “a family”. Why did God have to establish a new spiritual family through Jesus Christ? Apparently there was some major problems with the old spiritual family of God. Without getting into the details, because I would have to write you a book, we need to realize that God’s spiritual family included all of the spiritual beings, angels, Michael, Gabriel, and Satan (Lucifer) and his demons prior to Jesus coming and dying on the cross. Remember that the Bible says that Satan would not have crucified Jesus if he had known the consequences for killing him (1 Cor 2:8). You can see from that scripture that something happened on the cross to cause Satan to be very unhappy with the outcome. Something happened that affected him directly and personally. I wish I could go into in more depth but I just don’t have the time right now. I did give you a major clue earlier on this subject so I hope you can put the pieces together and seek the answers for yourself or you can wait until I have time to get into it.
So we can see from Hebrews 3:6 that Jesus has established a new family unit for God. Let me ask you this basic question, that I guess many don’t know in the world today, but what constitutes a family? What is a family defined as? What does a family unit consist of? I believe according to the Bible definition, a family is a man and his wife and their children. If you try to define a family any other way, you are wrong. Hollywood and television want to redefine marriage and modern families. There is even a new TV show called Modern Family that promotes the homosexual lifestyle and other abnormal behaviors. But we have to stick with what God thinks, God’s definition of marriage and family and only go by that. Jesus when confronted on the subject of marriage and divorce said, “can’t you read? in the beginning God created them male and female.” That of course was my paraphrase, but nonetheless it is the basic concept that was conveyed. We know that Adam and Eve were a natural pattern for Christ and the church. At least, I know that. We can see that God calls Jesus Christ the last Adam in the New Testament (1 Cor 15:45). God connects Jesus to the pattern of Adam directly. We can definitely see that Adam was a natural pattern of the spiritual Jesus. Adam had one wife who was the body of Adam, Jesus has one wife who is the body of Christ.
Rom 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam‘s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
What is the subject of this verse? It is directly related to Adam, and God says Adam is a pattern of Jesus to come. There are many other parallels and patterns that we could explore, but let’s continue with our subject and study can Jesus have children.
We know from Hollywood and a non-Christian author named Dan Brown that Satan has attempted to say that Jesus who was a man, had a sexual relationship with a woman on the earth and had children. I often times wondered why it was important for Satan to try to plant these misdirected seeds in the minds of people on the earth. Satan rarely does anything that does not have a purpose. I believe it is an attempt to distract us from the truth. True Christians will always reject that Jesus had a sexual relationship with a natural woman, but what else does the words of Dan Brown do to us? They automatically cause you to reject any other new assertion that Jesus could be a spiritual father of a spiritual child. The automatic conclusion would be, if we reject the physical child birth we must also reject a spiritual child birth. But here is the main difference, we reject the physical child birth, because it is not in the Bible. So we should see if the spiritual child birth is in the Bible.
We can see so many verses that give widespread implication of the establishment of a new family of God if we look for them. Here is a verse that speaks to us along these lines:
Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Using logic again we can see this verse speaks of two divisions of people. Those who believe and those who believe not. Those who believe are a people in a new family or a new household of faith. This word “household” literally means a close relative, those who are in the same family. But this is not just any family this is His family, the family unit of Jesus Christ. Those that have believed on Him.
So we have seen scriptures that indicate Jesus has established a new family of God and that this family is a new spiritual household with new family members. So does Jesus Christ have children? Here is another scripture that I found absolutely fascinating:
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
This verse is absolutely more proof that people read things and don’t see what it says. I’ve had this Bible verse printed in a bunch of my Christmas cards and I didn’t see it for a long time. Did you see it? Is this verse about Jesus Christ? Sure it is! Jesus is the child that was born, and the son that was given. Since it is currently the Christmas season, we can certainly see that Jesus, the Son of God is also being called a father. This verse in Isaiah 9:6 calls Jesus Christ the “Everlasting Father“. Do you understand the implications behind that little statement? I doubt very seriously that you do. Why does God need to put an adjective “everlasting” in front of the noun “father”? The reason you do this is to differentiate one father from another father. You see I thought God the Father was the Everlasting Father? Oh well, I guess I won’t go there today.
Did you know that you can’t be called a father or a mother, unless you have children. That is just a basic Bible fact. So if we read in Isaiah 9:6 that God calls Jesus the “Everlasting Father” we can conclude that he has children. There are two kinds of fathers in the Bible, one is a natural father and the other is a spiritual father. A natural father is only someone that has sown natural sperm into a natural woman and she has conceived and has given birth to a natural child. Then he is a called a father. Spiritually speaking a pastor, a priest or a bishop could be a spiritual father. All of the apostles were considered spiritual fathers. Paul was considered a spiritual father. In fact any Christian can sow spiritual seed into a non-Christian and if they believe and Christ is conceived in them, then they also become a spiritual father. You see there are spiritual families as well as natural families. That means there are spiritual seeds that were sown into the hearts of men and women and they have believed and accepted Jesus as Lord. The spiritual process follows a pattern of the natural process so that we can understand it.
So I have given you a lot of new information to think on. I have given you direct and indirect scriptures that indicate Jesus Christ is a Son who has established a new family for God. This family consists of Jesus the bridegroom, the Church his wife and some potential spiritual children. You have to study the pattern of Adam and Eve and you have to put some pieces of the puzzle together so I know there are still some that don’t see what I’m saying. Before I comclude let me quickly give you one more revelation from the Word of God. Jesus called Himself the Son of God and the Son of Man. The Hebrew word “Son” (and Jesus was a Hebrew) means “the builder of the family name”. In other words Jesus said I am building a new family for God and for Adam. Everytime Jesus said He was a Son, He implies that He will have children. This basically leaves Satan and the other demons out of the new family established by Jesus and His bride. I guess I’ll stop there in order not to overwhelm you with too much new information all at once.
I hope you realize how difficult it is to give you just a little bit and not cover a subject with adequate scriptural backing. If what I write is just my opinion it is not worth a dime, but if it is God’s Word, then you cannot dismiss it or write it off, unless you are stupid. All we have seen so far is the possibility that this child in Revelation 12 is a child of the church and Jesus, we have not really concluded who the child is, so please realize it will take more time for me to explain what God has taught me. We will continue with the subject of the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 in my next blog. I pray that you are thinking with your spiritual eyes open and that you can understand the Bible lessons being presented. Thank You for taking the time to study the Word of God with me.
If you would like to continue reading this series, you can continue with Part 7.
(Ver 1.1) In my last blog I went into verses found in Revelation 12 that described qualities and features of the woman. These descriptive terms spoke of those that overcame with the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, those that kept the commandments of God and those who possessed the testimony of Jesus Christ. I provided a number of verses that all demonstrate these qualities are describing the church. I also said that in this blog that I would start the process of identifying the man child that this woman in Revelation 12 delivers. I do not think that I will be able to get to everything that I wanted to today, but we will get there eventually. This is now the fifth part of a series of lessons on the “True Identity of the Woman in Revelation 12” and if you have not read them from the beginning I would strongly suggest that you go back and start with Part 1.
First, I want to briefly address a difficult comparison without going into a lot details about the subject. In other verses in chapter 12 we can clearly see that the woman is persecuted by Satan. We can see a hatred and anger directed at the woman. Satan is said to be at war with this woman. I believe those statements can and do apply to both Israel and the Church equally and is therefore is one reason why people have said this woman in Revelation 12 must be natural Israel. However, from my study in the Bible, there are two completely different reasons why Satan is persecuting these women. Both of these reasons revolve around Satan being motivated by a need for self-preservation. If you haven’t figure it out, Satan knows that his time is short (Rev 12:12). He is doing everything that he can to stop the plan of God and save himself from being cast into hell. I could go into this in much more depth, but I believe I will save that for possibly a future Bibles study topic. Just keep in mind that both women are being persecuted by Satan so both qualify based upon that to be the woman in Revelation 12. But, as we have seen in other verses in this chapter everything must line up in order to conclude the true identity of the woman. We can’t just take a part of the chapter and say this is this woman based upon a part of the chapter and leave the rest out. That is why I will now try to continue to explore the subject of why the woman is pregnant?
This of course will be something new, as if nothing that I have said is something new. Oh well, here we go. Let me start by giving you the possible candidates for the identity of the male child in Revelation 12, some of these you have heard before and others you probably have not:
- The natural male Jesus born in Bethlehem.
- The Risen Savior Jesus Christ born from Above
- The Spirit of God
As you can tell by my list of candidates, the child can only be God in some manifested form. I am convinced that the child cannot be anyone else, but God. So let us do some logical analysis of the verse in Revelation 12 that speak about this birth of a male child.
If the symbolic woman is a spiritual reality like I believe she is, being the church, then the child also has to be a spiritual child and not a physical child. That is just basic logic and it is also what the Word of God says. Jesus himself, said that which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is spirit (John 3:6). Taking what Jesus said we can see that this woman has to be either one natural woman with a natural child or one spiritual woman with a spiritual child and you can’t mix them up. If you try to mix them up you violate God’s Word! You can’t have a spiritual woman giving birth to a physical child and you can’t have a natural woman giving birth to a spiritual child. So who or what was Jesus born as? Of course Jesus was born as a natural physical male child in Bethlehem from the natural physical woman called Mary. The Bible says the Word was made flesh (John 1:14). Jesus was born of the flesh as a natural man. So Jesus was a physical man born of the flesh, even though he was still the Son of God. Jesus always made a point of calling himself the “son of Adam” or the “son of Man”. If you have read my other blogs you already know that “Adam” and “man” are the same Hebrew word. So if it is as most Bible teachers have declared, that this child in Revelation 12 is Jesus the Christ, if that is true then we are forced to conclude that the symbolic woman has to be Mary his natural physical mother. You see that which is born of flesh (Mary) is flesh (Jesus). I don’t know if you are following my logic or not. Me, being a computer programmer I am a highly logical thinker and God uses this to teach me things in the Bible. If you are not a logical thinker then you are probably struggling with this paragraph. What you should take away from this discussion is this, if this child in Rev 12 is Jesus the natural man he had to be born of a natural woman called Mary. Then you have to look at every other verse in the chapter and determine how Mary could fit in with that interpretation. If you are very smart you can immediately see that Mary doesn’t fit with any of the other descriptive qualities of the woman in Revelation 12, other than being a woman and being pregnant with a male child and that is just a small part of the whole knowledge revealed about this woman.
Next, we have to determine if the child is the risen Lord Jesus. The Bible says that Jesus the risen Savior was born from above. Jesus is called the firstborn from the dead (Col 1:18). Jesus himself said that a man must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God (Jo 3:3). Knowing that Jesus is a man, he must include himself into that statement. Jesus being God in the flesh is forced to abide by His own statement of truth. Jesus said a man must be born again or He cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. So we have to conclude that Jesus was the first one born again from the dead. It is just a simple fact, any man in heaven must have been spiritually born again in order to get there. I know this is a difficult side trip, but one that has spiritual significance if you can see it. If the child is a spiritual child, like I believe it is, then the mother has to be a spiritual mother and a spiritual wife. I told you the Bible was complicated and there are many potential interpretations, but still only one truth. Let us therefore strive to understand the truth.
So can a spiritual woman have spiritual children? Of course she can and here is the scriptural precedence for that statement:
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Jesus in this verse is called the first born from the dead. This is obviously a spiritual birth and not a natural birth, yes? If Jesus is born of the Spirit, then that demands by logical deduction the existence of a spiritual mother. That which is born of spirit is spirit! Some have tried to conclude that the woman in Revelation is the Spirit of God. But I have bad news for you, God is not a woman. God does not give birth as a female. God is the male, the Father, the Husband and the man in every covenant relationship. If you try to think otherwise, you are wrong. There is a very strong implication in thinking about Jesus being the firstborn from the dead, that a spiritual woman existed, prior to the resurrection of Jesus in order to give birth to him. This also shows us that a spiritual woman also existed prior to the church. This woman is assumed to be mature enough to give birth to children. Are you following my logic? These are all awesome statements of truth. So who is this woman that is mature enough to give birth to a risen Lord Jesus Christ? Here is another verse that God gives us in Romans that sheds more light on the subject:
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Again we see Jesus called the firstborn, but this time it says there is a second born, a third born and on and on we go. It actually says Jesus has many spiritual brothers and sisters. What we see is another implied reference to a spiritual woman that gives birth to these spiritual children. This is such an important concept to fully grasp and understand. Now let us figure out who this mature spiritual woman is that gave birth to all of these spiritual children:
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
This of course is a scripture that has been bypassed for lack of understanding for a very long time. We can see that this verse is speaking to the church directly so we can conclude that the church are the spiritual children that is being referred to. If we apply the logic that only spirit beings can have spiritual babies, then the woman mentioned here, this Jerusalem has to be a mature spiritual woman. We can also see the location of this woman as being somewhere above. Meaning it is not the earthly Jerusalem or any other place on our planet. Now some might try to conclude that this is the New Jerusalem, but it cannot be. You see I haven’t told you directly yet, but the church is the New Jerusalem. By using basic logic, a mother has to exist prior to having children. A woman does not give birth to herself. If Jesus was the firstborn from the dead, his spiritual mother had to exist prior to that birth. If the church is the new Jerusalem, there is no way it could be the mother of Jesus, this woman is said to be his wife in Revelation 21:2. If you continue to read chapter 4 of Galatians you can see that two different Jerusalem’s are mentioned. One is said to be a type of Hagar and she is called the “earthly Jerusalem”. The other Jerusalem from above is called a type of Sarah. Both of these women were Abraham’s wife and I don’t have time to explain that, just go study your Bible. If the earthly Jerusalem is called “Hagar” she is the younger woman and Sarah the Jerusalem from above is the much older barren woman. In this story of Abraham, Sarah was around 90 years old when she had her first child. Sarah is therefore the woman that has been around for much longer than Hagar. These are all valid types and patterns that I know is difficult to grasp at first. So what is this Jerusalem that is above? We can see another reference to this woman in Hebrews:
Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
You can clearly see that this city Jerusalem is said to be the city of the living God. It is the current location of heaven where God has His throne. This city as it says in this verse in comprised of an innumerable company of angels. These were the only spiritual beings in the city prior to Jesus’ resurrection. What we see is a pattern being given to us of a spiritual city, with a heavenly location with a lot of angels in it. This is the spiritual mother of Jesus and the church. This woman existed a long time before the earthly Jerusalem ever existed. At Jesus’ birth the New Jerusalem did not exist so we know that this woman cannot be either of these two Jerusalem’s. Here again are the cities that we have just identified:
- The Earthly Jerusalem
- The Heavenly Jerusalem
- The New Jerusalem
So what we have is the clear reference in the Bible to three completely different cities, all called Jerusalem and all three in covenant relationship with God at some point in time. I know this is complicated and totally new to most of you, but you don’t know everything that I do and I can’t teach you everything that I know all at once. What you need to realize is that there is a spiritual woman called the heavenly Jerusalem that has given birth to a spiritual daughter called the New Jerusalem and both of these women are not related to the earthly Jerusalem. The next thing that you should realize is that, if one spiritual woman can have children, then another spiritual woman can also have children. This is in fact a very significant statement to consider. If the woman in Revelation 12 gives birth to a spiritual being, she has to be a spiritual woman. The natural nation of Israel is a natural woman and not a spiritual woman. The natural nation of Israel is a pattern for the church a spiritual woman in covenant with Jesus Christ. I know I have a lot of explaining to do and hopefully I will get to it in a future blog. I know I did not discuss my third candidate possibility yet either. This child in Revelation 12 could still be the Spirit of God, but why would it be necessary for the spirit of God to be born from a new spiritual mother? That is a very interesting question to consider.
If you would like to continue reading this series of lessons, please continue to “Part 6“.
(Ver 1.2) This is now the third part in an advanced series of Bible lessons on the subject of the “True Identity of the Woman in Revelation 12”. These lessons are intended for spiritually mature Christians with an open mind and a willing heart to learn from the Bible. If you have not been reading this series from the beginning I would highly recommend that you go back and start with “Part 1“.
OK, in the last lesson I talked about the identity of the symbolic moon found in Revelation 12 as being Satan. This information has been encoded (hidden) into the Bible by God’s design using some very intelligent tricky techniques. One of these techniques for hiding information that God has used is the method of calling one person or spiritual entity by many different names, titles and descriptions. If you have ever studied the Bible you know that Satan is referred to as the serpent, the great dragon, the devil, Lucifer, Beelzebub, the father of lies, the ruler of darkness, the prince of darkness, the god of this world, the deceiver, the tempter, the thief, the accuser of the brethren, and as we saw in my last Bible lesson the symbolic moon. That of course is not a complete list, but just an example of what I am talking about. If you would like to see a more complete list of “Names, Titles, Symbols and Descriptions for Satan” you can click on that link and go there. There are many reasons why God has done this, but one of the main reasons is to allow Him to reveal the true meaning at the appointed time. The Old Testament was full of the prophecies of the coming Messiah, but yet Satan didn’t understand them neither did any of the Jews who kept the scrolls. God went through and completely revealed them to the apostles and Paul only after Christ was risen from the dead and ascended into heaven. There is a reason for this and it also establishes a pattern of how God works and gives us notice that He can do it again if He so chooses. You might call it God’s modus operandi. God has given to us a huge book of information, which contains a countless number of prophetic scriptures and God can reveal them to us even now and I believe that is what He is doing.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
What we can see in this verse a powerful spiritual truth being revealed to us about God’s creation. God created things in our world that reveal spiritual things that we need to know. By knowing these we will be able to understand God’s power and His Godhead. That is why it is important to note how created things like the sun, the moon and the stars fit into the spiritual picture. By understanding these natural things God is revealing some very powerful spiritual truths to us.
In Revelation 12:1 we saw a descriptive picture or a symbolic woman being given to us. For emphasis I believe that I should review these featured symbolic elements. This woman is said to have the following distinctive characteristics:
- A head with a crown of 12 stars
- A body clothed with the Sun (the Greater Light, Jesus Christ)
- Her feet standing on the moon (the lesser light, Satan)
- Finally, the location of the woman is said to be heaven
I hope you can agree with those basic statements, because they are all so very significant. We have seen that the body (the church) is clothed with Jesus Christ who is the symbolic Sun. We have seen that the woman’s feet is on the ruler of the darkness, the moon, who is Satan. I have given you numerous scriptures to back these explicit and implicit asserted truths. Knowing this revelation and understanding it will now help us to clearly identify the woman.
Psa 136:7 To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever:
Psa 136:8 The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever:
Psa 136:9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.
We can see that the Genesis 1 day 4 account of creation is being repeated as a second witness in the book of Psalms. This information verifies what we have already learned. The Sun rules the day and the moon rules the night. I like to try to give you two or three witnesses to every Bible truth so that you will know that I am not taking things out of context or just making stuff up as I go.
Today, I want to explore and confirm the identity of the symbolic moon in Revelation 12 called the ruler of darkness from a different perspective and see if we can establish precedence in the scripture for Satan to be under the feet of the Church (the body of Christ). After all the woman in Revelation 12 is said to have the moon under her feet, and where are the feet, nowhere but on the body? Let’s start by asking what does it mean in the Bible to have something or someone under your feet? Anything that is under your feet in the Bible is a clearly symbolic reference to your higher position of order, of rank and of authority. Someone being under foot is a sign of your triumphant victory over them as your enemy. For example, God told Joshua in the Old Testament, everywhere the sole of your foot shall tread, I have given to you (Joshua 1:3). To tread on means to walk over it with your feet. We learn from this principle that whatever God has given to man, a man is required to fight and to possess and this is an established spiritual law. These were God’s ways of demonstrating to Joshua that he was going to be victorious. The spiritual enemy to the church is of course Satan and I won’t go into every scripture that we could use to verify this. I believe that what God spoke to Joshua was a prophetic utterance that further applies to a pattern for the church to follow. What I will do now is give you some Biblical backing for “treading” on an enemy.
Psa 44:5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
Here we see a powerful prophetic principle given to us. This is a statement that can clearly be taken either naturally or spiritually. Symbolically speaking it is referring to the enemies of the church being under our feet. If you can see this principle it will certainly make the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 easier to grasp. Here is another interesting Old Testament scripture that must be related to Revelation 12:
Psa 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Did you notice the reference to a “dragon”? Do you think that this could be related to Revelation 12? I don’t think there are very many dragons in the Bible directly named and said to be under someone’s feet. I believe that it is a related scripture and directly points us to the identity of the moon as being Satan again. As I ran references in the Bible looking for the principle of treading down I ran into verses like this one:
Job 40:12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
Maybe you recall how Satan was lifted up in pride in the Old Testament and some of the statements that he is said to have made. God makes a prophetic declaration in this verse in Job and says that everyone that is proud will be brought low. Then it also speaks of treading down the wicked. I think both of these references could apply to Satan.
It is interesting to note what God told Adam in Genesis 1. God gave Adam some specific instructions and here is one that is very relevant to our discussion:
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
We understand from this verse that God created the man to look like Him. God then turned control of the earth over to His creation. God specifically says man has been given “dominion” over all the earth, and everything that moves on the earth. That is a very powerful bit of information for you to understand. It is also important that you know the Hebrew word translated as “dominion” has the following definition in the Strong’s:
A primitive root; to tread down, that is, subjugate; specifically to crumble off: – (come to, make to) have dominion, prevail against, reign, (bear, make to) rule, (-r, over), take.
This word has far reaching implications attached to it. It declares that man was intended to rule the earth. But, did you notice the word literally means “to tread down”. That is an active display of someone walking on something to demonstrate the defeat of that thing. The word clearly means to “prevail against” an enemy. Maybe you do not realize that God intentionally and prophetically declares the end from the beginning in this statement. God is saying that the end will be like I intended it to be in the beginning. Adam was given charge and instructions to defeat every enemy that came against him. But, instead Adam let Satan into our world and Satan became the god of our world system. I believe that the church will be used by God to demonstrate Satan’s defeat. You see the man was created the last part of the 6th day of creation. If you understand how the days of creation are prophetic this would seem to indicate that man will again become mature at the end of the 6th day or near the end of the 6000 year time period that God has given them. This would also mean that what God intended for the man to do is what will soon happen at the end of the 6000 years. If you look at verse 28 in Genesis 1 God repeats his instructions to the man, but this time the man is told to “subdue”. This Hebrew word again means to “tread down”. In other words walk on. The word literally means to conquer and to bring into subjection. These are all prophetic terms of a warfare that is occurring and the Church is declared to be the victorious one. This was the way that God intended it to be and this is the way that it will be. The church will go out victorious with Satan under our feet. But, let’s look for all of this in the Bible.
Let us continue now by looking at what Jesus says to the church right before He ascends into heaven. At this point and time Jesus was already crucified, and after 3 days arose to live forever more. Here in Luke we see some instructions being given to someone. So were these instructions given to us, the church? In the book of Luke Jesus makes this amazing statement:
Luk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
You see in this verse God is talking to the church about their enemy. This is a spiritual enemy and not a fleshly, carnal or natural enemy. In this verse, Jesus clearly delegates responsibility to the church. But, did you also notice the reference to the serpent? Where was the serpent suppose to be? Under the feet of the church, yes? Tread on means to put under your feet and walk on. This is a descriptive symbolic representation of where Satan is to be in relation to where the church is suppose to be. It is not coincidental or by accident that the identity of the serpent is clearly given to us in Revelation 12:9. But, where does this statement and concept first originate in the Bible? It is found in the Bible in Genesis chapter 3 after Adam and Eve sinned. God comes on the scene and speaks the following words directly to the serpent, Satan:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
I am going to have a difficult time here because the translators made a huge mistake. But I’ll attempt to explain it and hopefully you will understand it. God is speaking to Satan, the serpent so we know at least one of the primary subjects or nouns in the verse. God says “I will put enmity between thee…” and let me stop right there. What is enmity? It means hatred, it is an emotional status between two enemies? It seems to indicate a confrontation or even an assumed warfare. Are you understanding so far? Now God reveals the other primary subject or noun in the verse and He calls her “the woman”. Let’s stop there again and figure out which woman. Since there was only one physical woman on the planet, was it Eve or was it a prophetic statement of a different spiritual woman to come? Since at no time in scriptures do we see that Eve crushed the head of Satan, I feel we can rule out this natural woman Eve as being the woman that God is referring to. I am convinced that it is a prophetic statement concerning the church and I will tell you why later.
Then God seems to change the subject, and He says “between your seed and her seed”. Here we have the first reference in the Bible to “the seed of the woman“. This of course is an interesting and complex concept. But, what we need to determine is, according to the Bible, what is a “seed”? If you would like to read my series on this subject in depth you can go to “Understanding Seeds“. There are many different definition of seed given to us in the Bible, from natural seeds in fruits and vegetables that you plant into the ground, all the way to the sperm in a male. Then, children are also called seeds in the Bible. These are all examples, of natural seeds. But, there are also spiritual seeds in the Bible and if this is a prophetic reference to a spiritual woman, I would also guess that “her seed” is a spiritual reference. So what are spiritual seeds? Jesus tells us in the Gospels that the sower, sows the word of God (Mk 4:14). We can learn from this that the seed that the sower was sowing were God’s Words. These are spiritual seeds that are planted into the hearts of men (Mat 13:19). These seeds are either fruitful or they die or get choked out by the enemy’s seeds because the hearer did not understand them. There are multiple parables in the gospels about seeds, gardens and harvests that all apply to the spiritual realities that I am referring to and I will not attempt to include these in order to keep this lesson as short as possible. If nothing else you should have learned that there are many possibilities for what the seed of the woman could be. Maybe you are like me and have heard it taught for years that the “seed of the woman” is Jesus Christ and He is the one to bruise the head of the serpent on the cross. That is a common misinterpretation of God’s word and I will attempt to explain why.
So here is where I’ll probably lose some, the next statement in Genesis 3:15 is the part of the verse that I believe was mistranslated by two little words. This is what the King James Bible says “it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. The word “it” is a Hebrew word that is often times translated as “she” or “her”. In fact if you look at Genesis 3:12, Adam’s response to God calls his wife by this word and it is translated as “she”. The translators thought they were talking about a prophetic statement of Jesus Christ so they changed the verse to reflect the male gender of Jesus to be the seed. Then there is the term “his heel”. From what I could see by studying, there was no Hebrew word for “his” so it was also added for supposed clarity by the translators. However, if we change the verse to what I consider to be a more correct translation it would read like this:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; she shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise her heel.
Right now this is just a minor technicality, but I believe based upon more scriptures that I will show you it will become very significant. Remember this, right before Jesus ascended He told the church to walk on serpents. Right there ought to tell you that Jesus didn’t already do it. Jesus would have never delegated something that He had already done. In Luke 10:19 we have all of the same nouns found in Genesis 3:15. We have the serpent, the church’s feet, and Jesus’ instruction to her, the church, to walk on Satan. I know some of these are indirect references yet they are there if you can see them. Let me give you another valuable scripture found in the New Testament that will shed significant additional light on the subject. In the book Romans, God makes this statement that is truly outstanding:
Rom 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Again we have all the subjects and nouns found in Genesis 3:15 just using different terminology and perspectives. We see God speaking to the Church, the bride of Christ a spiritual woman saying to her that God will bruise Satan (the serpent) under her feet very soon. You see there is a problem if Jesus has already put Satan under His feet, why would God still need to do it using the church’s feet later? God gave Paul the book of Roman’s many years after the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and at the time of this writing, the bruising of the serpents head had not yet occurred. Did you also notice the term “bruise” in Romans 15:20? Isn’t that what God said would happen to the serpent in Genesis 3:15? Again, we can see a spiritual woman, her feet and Satan the serpent being bruised, all mentioned in relation to a pending future action that was soon to occur. We can see in God’s timetable that the time of this crushing of the serpent’s head has to occur very soon. From prophetic words that we studied in Genesis 1, we can see that the church age only lasts two days, or 2000 years. So if it is going to happen it has to happen very, very soon. Here is one more verse that I will leave this blog with. In this verse we again see the pending status of God’s enemies:
Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Here we have another verse that states Satan, the enemy of God is not yet under the feet of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is seated at the right of the Father and He waits for His enemy to be made His footstool. A footstool is a place you rest your feet, yes? If the church is the body of Christ, where is Jesus’ feet right now? We are the feet of Jesus in the earth and Jesus is waiting for God to bruise Satan under our feet. I believe it is time to demonstrate the defeat of Satan under the feet of the spiritual woman. So what I have attempted to do today is to demonstrate scriptural precedence that establishes a woman that has Satan under her feet. By establishing this in the Bible it helps us to better understand the woman in Revelation 12. The woman is clothed with Jesus Christ and has Satan under her feet. Who else can it be?
Thanks for taking the time to study the Word of God. If you would like to continue reading this series of lessons you can continue with “Part 4“.
(Ver 2.0) This is Part 2 of a series of lessons on the True Identity of the Woman in Revelation 12. In my last blog on this subject, I introduced you to the identity of the Sun as being the Lord Jesus Christ. I briefly described the Sun as the closest star to our planet, our natural source of heat, light and life. I pointed you to an overwhelming number of verses in the Old Testament and the New Testament that called Jesus the Sun. Sometimes He is called the Day Star, the Bright Morning Star, or the Light of the world, but all of these are synonymous terms for the sun. If you have read through my other blogs you may already know where we are going next. I don’t like to repeat myself, but since I have new readers all the time, it is good to review. If you did not read the first lesson in this series I would strongly suggest that you go back and start with “Part 1“. It is always my understanding that truth builds upon truth. So you need to understand things from the beginning to get the new things that I will discuss today.
What we need to do next is to determine the identity of the symbolic moon in Revelation 12:1. In the book of Genesis chapter 1 verses 13 through 18, we can see that by the law of first mention, that God gives us specific information to the identity of the sun and moon. Of course they are not called the sun and the moon here and that has been the challenge of why men have not seen these relationships before now. The sun and the moon are called the greater light and the lesser light and this was an intentionally designed method of God to conceal them until God desired to reveal them. On Day 1 of creation God creates light and establishes two divisions, one called day and the other He called night. We can understand from this statement in Genesis 1:3-5 that the sun and moon must already exist on Day 1 for any days or night to exist. Think about it logically, the earth rotates around the sun and this rotation of the earth is what causes night and day to occur. Without the existence of the sun, there is no day only night. We can see on Day 4 of creation that God causes the sun and the moon to rule these two divisions called Day and Night established on Day 1. It is very interesting to note that these two divisions are both made up of 12 unique measurements of time commonly called hours. I believe that it is not by accident or coincidence that God has done this. I believe that this is a purposeful, intentional act of God that reveals some hidden spiritual things to us. In my last blog on this subject I also told you about natural Israel and spiritual Israel. Each of these two nations also represents two distinct divisions which consist of 12 unique sub-divisions, which are normally called tribes. Where we go from here may be very hard for many to accept. But, I have to tell it like it is and hope that you can see it.
Day and night are both natural symbolic references that represent spiritual realities revealed to us in the New Testament. Both of these conditions represent the spiritual state of the hearts of men and women on the earth. Day and Night are two distinct and unique kingdoms, one of light and one of darkness. The church is said to be in the day and the light and the rest of the world is said to be in darkness. If you use your Bible search program you will find lots of references to these facts in both the Old and New Testaments. Search for key words like night, day, light and darkness to start with. Here is one example of what you will find:
1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
God informs the church that we are of the Day and of the Light. The church is actually called children of the Light. We know from other verses in the Bible that God is Light and in Him is no darkness. So the church is called the spiritual children of God. There is a very clear reference that anyone not in the church is in the night and in the darkness. We also can see that since God has no darkness in Him, these people in the darkness are separated from God. So again we see two divisions one called day and one called night. So why are these significant? We know from studying the Bible that Night and Day are symbolic representations of the conditions of the hearts of men and women on the earth. Let’s go through the Genesis 1 day 4 account of creation and determine how this information fits into the pattern of Day and Night:
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Did you notice God said that there were lights, plural that were going to divide the day from the night? What did Day and Night represent? Day and night are symbolic states of the spiritual condition of the hearts of men. These lights were created to give light upon the earth, but the earth also represents symbolically the hearts of men and women. Earth is where the sun shines or doesn’t shine, the plants grow, trees grow, etc. The church is instructed to produce fruit, where does spiritual fruit come from? Spiritual fruit comes from spiritual trees and spiritual plants that grow in the spiritual ground of the hearts of mankind. I could spend a lot of time familiarizing you with these basic Bible concepts, but hopefully you understand them at least a little bit. Let us continue in Genesis and see what else God says about these two lights:
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
We can see that God declares these lights to be the rulers of these two divisions called day and night. Here again we see one of God’s tricks being utilized, God calls the sun by a different name, called the “greater light” and the moon, He calls the “lesser light“. This verse contains all of the essential elements found describing the woman in Revelation 12:1. We can see, the Sun, the moon and the stars all being mentioned for the first time in the Bible. Since it is the first time these celestial objects are mentioned in the Bible, these verses will help us to understand what these objects represent in Revelation 12. This spiritual law is called the law of first mention and is a common practice that God uses to reveal information to us. So who rules the day, it is Jesus Christ the Sun of Righteousness. Here is a good scripture that is certainly related to our current subject:
1 Jn 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
John writing to the church tells them that the “true light” is now shining in them. They have come out of the darkness and the night and have seen the true light. But by the law of inverse truth, if there is a true light, then there is also a false light. Isn’t that an interesting consideration? You see the moon who rules the darkness does not make any light or have any ability to produce light without the sun. The sun is Jesus Christ and the moon is Satan. The moon is a false light, and the Sun is the true light. Satan must be the ruler of the darkness; Satan must be the ruler of the night. It is very much like saying Christ and antichrist. Jesus is the Christ and Satan is the antichrist. These are just basic Bible principles of opposites being demonstrated to us. Jesus is good and Satan is evil. But, let us confirm all of this in the Bible:
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
What we see in this verse directed to the church is a fact that declares our enemy to be the rulers of the darkness of this world. Darkness is a condition of the hearts of them that are in the spiritual state of night. This can only be Satan and his demonic cohorts. Just note the direct reference to someone ruling and what they are said to be the ruler of; this of course is the darkness. Darkness is simply the nonexistence of light. You take light away and you get darkness. The Bible says God is light so you take God away what do you have left? Darkness is also a synonymous term for night. If Jesus is the spiritual Light of the world, then those who do not know Christ are the ones that are in a state of spiritual darkness. According to Ephesian 6:12 Satan is the ruler of those individuals without Christ. If you noticed in Ephesians 6:12, it said the enemy of the church was a spiritual force that consisted of “principalities” and “powers”. If you go back to Genesis 1:16 and note the Hebrew word H4475 translated as “rule”, it means to govern and have power over. So we can see that God has allowed Satan to seize power over all everyone still in the darkness. But, then we could also say that for those who belong to Christ, they are now ruled by Jesus, the Light of Day and Satan doesn’t have any power over us. Let’s look at another New Testament verse about Satan:
1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
This verse is again speaking about Satan being called the “prince” of this world. The Greek word translated as “prince” means “ruler”, the one that is above the rest. This is not speaking of natural or physical kingdoms in this verse, but it is speaking of the order within the spiritual realm of darkness. This world is a reference to the spiritual world that we do not perceive with our 5 natural physical senses. What we realize from this verse is that this present world is ruled by an unseen spiritual force that will come to nothing. So let’s expand our knowledge with another verse:
Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Again we see a very clear reference to a “prince” as being a spiritual ruler of the world. Paul writes that we who are now in the church use to obey this prince, but now we do not. The implication is given that we (the church) are now on the outside from under the control of this ruler of the world, even though he still is working in those who are not Christians. This Greek word translated as “prince” or “ruler” is clearly stated to be a spiritual being that we cannot perceive with our senses. There is a clear division being stated between two groups of people; one group in the light and one group in the darkness. Here is another witness to exactly what I am teaching you today:
Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
We can again clearly see a distinction being stated between two groups of people. These are clearly stated to be two distinct and different kingdoms and the rulers of the kingdoms are stated to us indirectly and directly. You can clearly see that it directly names Jesus the Son of God to be the ruler of the kingdom that the church now exists within. Indirectly you have to make the association that the “power of darkness” is a reversed opposite to Jesus the Sun of Righteous. This can only be Satan the moon.
So we have seen several good Bible references for Satan being called the prince, ruler and power of this present spiritual world of darkness. Then here we have another related scripture found in 2 Corinthians:
2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Both an explicit and an implied truth is given to us in this verse that Jesus Christ is the spiritual Sun light, that is trying to shine into the hearts of men who believe not the truth. You can deduce from this verse that those who believe, are those who the Light of Christ as risen within and those who don’t believe are those who are still in darkness. This verse says that those who do not see the light of Jesus have been blinded so that they cannot see His light. This verse is describing those who are in the darkness versus those in the daylight. It also says who is blinding them and this is the god of this world, who is Satan, has blinded their minds so that they cannot see the light of Christ. Physical blindness is the inability to see natural light clearly, spiritual blindness is the inability to see and understand the Word of God internally. Blindness can be external or internal according to this verse. Satan who rules the night is the one that keeps the light from shinning into their hearts and he uses thoughts placed in their mind to defeat them. Satan is the moon who rules those in the darkness and keeps men from seeing the true light. Because they see a little false light they believe lies. The moon has no life or light in it and it is a deceiver. I hope and pray that you understand these simple natural truths and are transferring this information into the spiritual realm correctly.
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
You see in Genesis 1:17 and 18 the reiteration of the truth of God’s word, the sun will rule the day and the moon will rule the night. This will cause two separate divisions to manifest and one will be called the kingdom of light and the other will be called the kingdom of darkness. We know that God is light and in him is no darkness. Therefore we know that God is of the day and that is where the true church now is also, because He is inside of us. These are very powerful spiritual truths that every Christian needs to thoroughly understand and I hope I have helped you to see them.
I’ll leave you in this blog, with this final bit of information. The fourth day of creation was a prophetic event. God declares that a day with the LORD is as a 1000 years and a 1000 years are even as one day (2 Peter 3:8). If you do the math you will find that Jesus was born approximately 4000 years after Adam. In other words Jesus came to the earth on the 4th day to bring a spiritual Light to men. When He came He established a spiritual division called Day, meaning he left Satan out in the darkness. This is why the Bible says if Satan would have known what was going to happen, he would not have crucified the LORD of Glory.
Now we have established the identity of two of the major key dependent symbols in the book of Revelation and we should now be able to see the identity of the woman coming into much clearer focus:
Rev 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman (????) clothed with the sun (Jesus Christ), and the moon (Satan) under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
Are you seeing it yet? So far I have just filled in two of the symbolic clues and already we have a greatly reduced set of possible candidates for the identity of the woman in Revelation12. In fact in my mind it can only be one woman in my list of candidates. But, we will continue the study of the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 and hopefully we can all be united and all come to the same conclusion. In my next blog I will explore further evidence in the Bible for who the moon represents.
If you want to continue reading this series go to Part 3.
(Ver 2.0) This is the Part 1 of a series of extremely advanced Bible lessons that will reveal the “True Identity of the Woman in Revelation 12“. There are many opinions on who this symbolic woman represents. You can go and search the INTERNET and find various approaches to the interpretation of this chapter. However the vast majority of these interpretations are based upon human reasoning and man’s opinion of the subject. These are all private invalid interpretations of the scripture based upon 2 Peter 1:20. An opinion is always trumped by a known fact. A fact will always take presedence over my opinion. Then there is God’s Truth that will always trump any known fact. What God has declared in His Word will always take presedence over any fact that is known by a man. So in this lesson we are going to focus in on God’s truths and ignore man’s facts and opinions. Also, if you are a true believer and have been born again, you have the same Holy Spirit inside of you that Paul had in him. You are in the same church that Paul is in. Often times I think that people forget this, or don’t know this or just ignore this fact. But, because they don’t know this they don’t realize that what God did for Paul He will do for you and I also. This is what Paul said about what he taught:
Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
So where did Paul get the gospel that he was teaching? Apparently it was not from any seminary, synagogue temple, or human teacher on this earth. This information did not originate on the earth, but rather came directly from God. So when I read through some of the blogs on the subject of the identity of the woman in Revelation 12, I was very surprised to see how many quoted from some human reference or commentary. Many of the blogs simply said I think this woman is __________. What do you think? Nobody could give any definitive proof or evidence for the identity to the woman, and everything that they wrote was based upon human reasoning, presumption or speculation. I do not believe that is a valid approach to the interpretation of the Bible. So I will warn you up front that what I am about to tell you now, did not come from man, but is a result of what I believe that God has taught me and I pray that you will see there is a major difference.
I cannot emphasize enough the complexity of the Bible. God has written the Bible in a fashion that conceals vast amounts of information, making it very challenging for us to understand. But once we begin to learn some of the techniques that God has used in writing the Bible and concealing information in plain sight we will soon begin to understand much more of the Bible. If you would like to study some of the techniques that God uses for “Hiding the Truth in Plain Sight” then please read that first.
WHO CAN THE WOMAN BE?
Let us start with the possible candidates for the identity of the woman in Revelation 12. I would strongly suggest that you go and open your Bible and read the entire chapter 12 of Revelation. Write down all of the symbols and descriptions in a list to help you organize your thoughts. But I will start by giving you a list of possible candidate women found in the Bible while we immediately ask is the woman in Revelation 12 a literal unnamed physical natural woman or a symbolic representation for a unknown or unnamed spiritual woman? From everything that I have read so far, here are the possibilities of the identity of the woman:
- The Earthly Jerusalem, the natural nation of Israel, the Old Testament Wife of God (Jer 31:32)
- The Heavenly Jerusalem, the spiritual mother of Jesus and the church (Gal 4:26)
- The New Jerusalem, the Church, the Bride, the Wife of Jesus Christ the Lamb (Rev 21:2)
- The physical natural woman named Mary, the natural virgin mother of the natural Son of God/Son of Man named Jesus (Mat 1:16)
There will no doubt be many that will read my list of 4 candidates and not understand it. However, if you study the Bible very closely and carefully observe what is said, you will discover that there are 3 completely different covenant cities in the Bible all called by the exact same name Jerusalem. This is just one technique that God uses to conceal truth in the Bible. He calls multiple separate things by the exact same name. We have to first realize that there are natural things and that there are also spiritual things and both of these can be called by the same name. Every one of these cities represents a female in a separate covenant relationship with God. Also, all four of these women are described in the Bible as having children and being mothers. Any of these cities could fit the pattern description of the symbolic pregnant woman in Rev 12. I do not have the time to explain all of this in this lesson, so you will to go and study it for yourself. I have multiple Bible lessons on this website that will help you. I warned you that what was being taught came from God and not from a man, so it will certainly sound different than anything you’ve ever heard before.
WHEN DOES THE EVENT IN REVELATION 12 OCCUR?
There are 5 basic questions to ask when studying and Bible subject. This is “who”, “what”, “when”, “where” and “why”. I want to start this lesson on Revelation 12 with the question “when does this chapter occur?” This will be a new approach for many and will originate from a different scripture than what you might think that I should start with. Since we are talking about chapter 12 of Revelation, I would like to back up and start reading with Revelation chapter 4 and show teach something very important that God says. I think we can all understand that Revelation 12 is either a past historical event, a present day current event or a future coming event. Determining which one it is will help us tremendously to determine which interpretation is applicable and valid and which interpretations are not valid. Can we agree with that? Let’s read Revelation 4 to find out the timing of the events:
Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
People obviously read scriptures and just ignore them or fail to apply them. Either way we are going to fail in our understanding of the Bible if we do that. Here we have God in Heaven telling the apostle John to “come up” to heaven so that He can show him things that will occur from this point in time forward. If we are intelligent; we should realize that from chapter 4 forward, whatever was written, God says has NOT occurred at the time of the words being written down by John. Is this too complicated to comprehend? Do you understand this statement? Do you believe God? Is God a liar?
I think what confuses many sometimes is the fact that God uses symbolism in Revelation for spiritual things and for people that existed prior to this writing. Some of these symbols will reflect existing spiritual and physical realities like Jesus, Satan, angels, the church, the nation of Israel, and other spiritual entities that must already pre-exist before Revelation 4:1. Therefore, what is prophesied to happen to these existing entities in the future is easily confused with past event occurrences that have already occurred because of the similarities of descriptions.
Please understand the difference between something that is prophesied to happen to someone that already exists, is not a conflict or a problem unless we say it has already occurred because that would violate the definition of a prophecy and the scripture we just read in Revelation 4:1 where God says everything that is stated from this point forward has NOT yet occurred. Is this too complicated? Can we agree? What we are going to soon discover is that there are statements found in Revelation 12 that will cause most people to gravitate to a specific pre-drawn conclusion of the identity of the woman in Revelation 12 because the woman is described to be 1) pregnant and because 2) her child after birth is said to be caught up to heaven and 3) because he is said to rule with a rod of iron Therefore they have automatically concluded without studying or taking into account Revelation 4:1 that the child must be the LORD Jesus and that forces the woman to either be physical Mary or the natural nation of Israel.
However, this interpretation automatically makes God to be a liar. Some have to believe that God is clearly confused that this event has not already occurred in Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospels! But we know that this cannot be truthful since God is all-knowing and cannot lie. Therefore, clearly God is NOT now revealing new Revelation to John a long time after the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and after his ascension into heaven. I also would like to point out that Revelation 12 says the “child” is caught up and that does not match the description of the ascension of Jesus into heaven as a full grown mature man of at least 33 years of age. What God is trying to get us to see, is the fact that the prophecies going forward are all about coming events and not about historical events that have already occurred. We can easily disagree with God, if we would like to but that is probably why our Bible interpretations are so poor. Read the Bible and follow what it says, apply it to surrounding verses and learn by using what they say wisely.
If God says that I will show you things to come in Revelation 4:1, does chapter 12 come before or after chapter 4? You have to agree that chapter 12 comes after chapter 4. So that is the problem with the majority of people’s interpretation of the woman in Revelation 12. They have jumped to the conclusion that the child born must describe the birth of the physical natural child named Jesus in Bethlehem and therefore the woman must be the natural nation of Israel or the physical woman Mary ignoring all of the scriptures evidence that I will present in this lesson.
Maybe this will help us to ask this, when did John write this book? Was it after Jesus was born or before Jesus was born? Most Bible scholars will agree that the book of Revelation was written a long time after the birth of Jesus and could have been written somewhere around the year 96 AD. Obviously it should be clear in your mind that Revelation was written well after the birth of Jesus, so therefore we must conclude that the baby described in Revelation 12 can NOT be physical Jesus using this logic alone. I know that will upset a great number of readers, but yet I’m just reading the Bible and seeing what God says. If God would have said in Rev 4:1 come up here and I will show you the things that have already happened and the things that will come hereafter, then that changes our view of the possible interpretations significantly. Since that is not the case what we must conclude based upon the Word of God is that the pregnancy of the woman and the birth of the child in Revelation 12 are both future events. I believe that if we try to teach it any other way that we make God to be a liar. I would personally rather stay on God’s side. Therefore we have started to answer the “when” question. I could spend a lot of time on this topic but I will concluded this section with asking you when do the events of the rest of the chapters occur? Chapters 4 through 21 have any of these occurred yet? I know that some say they have already occurred but they are clearly wrong. Don’t be deceived to believe these events have occurred already. They are ALL about to happen in a very short time from now.
WHAT DO THE SYMBOLS MEAN?
In order to identify the symbolic woman in Revelation 12 correctly, I found that it was critical to identify the woman’s associated symbolic characteristics and descriptions first. This is us asking the “what” question about the woman. What is she wearing, what is she standing on, what is doing? What we will discover when we study is that the given symbolic descriptions of the symbolic woman’s features surrounding her clearly only point us to one possible valid identity. It is what I call a dependent truth relationship. Until we identify the “parent” truths, we will never understand the “child” truths. I am not really sure if you understand this concept that I just gave you.
This concept is found in computer programming and other paradigms, as well as in the natural world when speaking of children born from their parents. In computer programming languages this feature is called inheritance. This is where one computer object inherits qualities and features from another object. But, you can not fully understand the child’s object capabilities without fully understanding the parent’s object. If you do know anything about computer programming you still may be struggling with this concept, so I’ll try to show you by teaching you about the parent symbols found in Revelation 12 to help you understand the woman’s identity. These parent symbol truths start with information found in Revelation 12:1:
Rev 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
We can see immediately in verse 1 that this woman is clothed with a very significant object referred to as a symbolic sun. Then we are informed that she is standing with her upon another very significant specific object names to be a symbolic moon. Finally on her head she is crowned with another symbolic item of a crown of 12 stars. What we should start with is to realize that this information dictates a fact of truth that this woman MUST be a symbolic representation of a greater spiritual truth because of the symbols describing her. Normally God gives us symbolic information using natural objects that we can understand to help represent spiritual truths that we have never seen or understood. But, by us understanding these natural object we can then transfer this knowledge into the required spiritual truths.
The most important things to take away from what we have read so far is to understand that the sun, the moon and the stars must be ALL be symbolic references using naturally created things that also point us to much greater spiritual unseen truths not yet understood. These symbols of the sun, the moon and the stars are three of the most important dependent parent truths that I was referring to earlier and these must be understood correctly in order to identify the woman in Revelation 12. This is where most Bible teachers and students have started to miss it in their interpretations. They have focused in on the woman and her child and missed or ignored the other key symbols given to us by God that are very significant. My approach as I have already tried to say will be to ignore the woman and the child to begin and to focus in on these three other symbols to obtain the keys to unlock the identity of this woman in Revelation 12. This is a radical departure from human logic and reasoning, but we will soon discover it will help tremendously to our understanding the woman.
What does the sun, the moon and the stars all have in common? They are heavenly created bodies that surround or can be seen and observed from the earth. That information right there ought to start us thinking in a different way. What does the earth represent in other symbols given in the scriptures? Jesus taught us in the parable of the sower that earth represented the hearts of men. I believe that is very relevant to know so keep that in mind. Then consider this, these objects exist in varying distances from earth. The earth revolves around one, the sun. Second, the moon revolves around the earth. Third, the stars innumerable and are just more distant solar systems other than our own. Let’s start briefly with the crown of 12 stars. We should know from Bible study that the number 12 has a lot of significance throughout the book. This number could apply to the natural nation of Israel who had 12 tribes, but it could also apply to the church that also had 12 tribes that originated from the 12 apostles of the Lamb. So using this number “12” information alone we can interpret that the woman could potentially either be natural Israel or the church. I currently do not know of any number 12 that is associated with the natural woman Mary so based upon this information we can almost guarantee that the woman is not Mary, but we will explore this more as a confirmation as we continue. I think I will leave the further discussion of the symbolic stars until another lesson. Too many have tried to start with the identity of the symbolic stars and have come up with natural Israel and I think that just will confuse the issue for now. Instead of being focused on the distant heavenly bodies themselves (stars) many teachers have become distracted by the number 12 and placed too much significance upon it while just ignoring the other symbols. The number 12 is important, but not in the way that you currently think right now.
What I want to do is to address the easiest and most profound symbol of the identity of the woman in Revelation 12, the sun. She is said to be “clothed” with and which means that she is literally “wearing” the sun. She is described as a woman wearing the physical sun as her clothing. The Greek word translated as “clothed” means “to put on” or to “invest with clothing”. This is an absolutely fascinating concept. The sun is very bright, ver warm and hot, the source of life and light for our planet. The sun is also the closest star to our planet and the center of our solar system that everything else revolves around. These physical attributes actually give us parallels into the spiritual realm and help us to identify who this symbolic spiritual sun is. Let me list the qualities of the sun again for those who might have just let them slide over their heads.
- The Source of Light
- Very Bright
- The Source of Life
- The Source of Heat and Warmth
- Only Present during the Day when we work
- Not present or seen at Night when we sleep
These might seem very obvious to you, but yet you still do not understand the significance to what they mean. I just gave you 6 descriptive characteristics of the symbolic Sun that the woman is clothed with. In knowing these we could describe that this woman is wearing, life, light, brightness, warmth and the day. Her clothing is described in these very specific terms. Keep these in mind as we go forward with this study because they are all very important.
So what or who does this symbolic sun represent? I will not keep you in suspense because the sun according to the Bible is the Lord Jesus Christ. How did I come to that conclusion? It is simply what the Bible says. Let’s start with a verse found in the book of Malachi:
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Here we see a verse that speaks indirectly about Jesus Christ, by not calling Him the “SON of Righteousness”, but rather by calling Him the “SUN of Righteousness”. Sun not Son. Surely you can see this and understand who it is talking about? If not, take note of the fact that something or someone is named as the Sun and that he will be rising somewhere to bring healing to someone in righteousness. Please note that God says the sun rises and this is a symbolic spiritual prophecy of someone that brings healing. Now with all that in mind, let’s find out who this Sun of Righteousness represents:
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
In this verse we can see another reference to Jesus being a light that rises and shines in the hearts of us believers. We can also clearly see that He is called the “Day Star”. This is just another way to describe the closest star to our planet that shines in the daylight hours and is normally called our “Sun”. Do you get it? It is a very tricky method that God uses to call the sun by different names, titles and descriptions in order to conceal it from plain sight and to make it more difficult to find. But, Jesus is clearly again called the spiritual Sun (Star Shinning during the Day) that rises in the human heart. The reference to dawn is a description of sunrise when light first breaks in the morning and the darkness has to vanish. These are all spiritual truths reflected in natural symbolism. But, wait, I’m not done yet. For those skeptics who are blind or dull of sight, I’ll give you another great verses for the identity of the Sun. This time it is Jesus himself talking and the words are written in red ink in my Bible:
Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Here we have the same method used by God, calling the Sun by still another new name. God calls the Sun the “Bright Morning Star“. This is another direct reference to “dawn” when the Sun rises trhough the usage of the term “morning”. We can easily understand that Jesus is the Sun that rises in the hearts of Christians to bring us light into our spirits. If you don’t understand this you are in trouble. Have you ever looked into the sun accidently and noticed how bright it is? The woman in Revelation 12 who is clothed with the sun would also be called this bright. This verse in Revelation is referring to this bright star (Sun) that rises in the morning in new different terms.
The reason people have not seen this reference is because they think this morning star is a reference to a planet like Venus. But, that interpretation ignores the fact that God says this is a star and not a planet. Venus is clearly not a star. These are also the words of Jesus telling us personally who He is, if you think He is a dead planet and not the life giving star of our planet (heart) then I really cannot help you see it. Let me give you another new title for the name of the Sun. This time it is in the prophecy of John the Baptist’s father when speaking of Jesus:
Luk 1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
So Jesus is prophesied to be the “Dayspring”. If you look up the definition of this word in the Strong’s it means “a rising light”. Isn’t this what the sun does every day? You can also see that this is the same meaning of “dawn” when the sun rises. What we see is a clear reference to Jesus being the Sun and the light of the world that rises. When Jesus was born into the world He brought the light with Him. Let me give you another reference for the identity of the Sun. Again we will look at the words of Jesus himself when he walked the face of the earth in the flesh.
Joh 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
You do understand the source of the light and life for our planet, yes? The natural sun produces the light on our planet and is the primary source of life also. In this verse in John, Jesus reveals himself to be the spiritual light of the world and the source of spiritual life. This is a direct parallel to the physical light of the world, which is the sun. We can clearly see that Jesus informs us if we continue to follow Him, that we would NOT walk in darkness. Jesus is referring to the hearts of man in this verse and tells us that He will light them internally, or spiritually. Since the physical sun is the source for life on this planet, we can understand that the spiritual Sun of Righteousness is the spiritual source for our spiritual life. What we have is a natural pattern given for a greater and much more significant spiritual reality. We can see the same physical qualities being described in Jesus. Jesus is calling himself the light of life, that is clearly the sun. Jesus is calling himself the light of the world, that again is the sun. Jesus says we will not walk in darkness or the night, because again we have Jesus the Sun in our life.
There are many verses in the Bible that I can include in this lesson to illustrate the truth of the identity of the “Sun” being Christ. I will only go with one more that repeats some of the basics that we have already witnessed in other verses, but since we are suppose to establish every word of truth using 2 or 3 witnesses, I will give you this one as another confirming witness:
2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
This verse is very informative. It first confirms that the Genesis account contains prophetic statements within it. God who on day 1 of creation, commanded the light to be, declares that this was a prophesied future spiritual event that would occur when Jesus came to earth. The location of this shining or enlightenment is clearly given to be the hearts of mankind. This is the inward spiritual location of your eternal spirit being. Then the verse ends with how this occurs. It is through knowing Christ. Finally, there is a reference given to the “face” of Jesus Christ. I found that is fascinating and informative. You see in the book of Revelation the “face” of Jesus is described this way:
Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
You see in this verse of Revelation, God is describing some spiritual qualities of Jesus Christ. I’ll skip the first two and go directly to the last part of that verse that says “his countenance was as the sun shining in his strength”. Isn’t that an interesting way to describe Jesus? The word “countenance” can be translated as “face”. So the “face” of Jesus is said to be symbolically shining like the sun at noonday. This I believe is highly significant and just further confirms that Jesus Christ is the symbolic Sun found in Revelation 12. Here is a list of scriptures that all refer to Jesus Christ in terms describing Him to be the Sun. Some of these I have given you already and some are new:
- The Sun of Righteousness (Mal 4:2)
- The Greater Light that Rules the Day (Gen 1:16)
- The Day Star (2 Peter 1:19)
- The Bright and Morning Star (Rev 22:16)
- The Morning Star (Rev 2:28)
- The Dayspring (Luke 1:78)
- The True Light (John 1:9, 1 John 2:8)
- The Light of the World (John 8:12, John 9:5)
- The Light of Life (John 8:12)
- The Sun (Rev 1:16, Rev 12:1)
To me that is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ is the Sun. Let me now approach this subject from a different angle to give you some additional perspective on this topic of the identity of the Sun. Is the church ever told to wear the sun? As you recall, the woman in Revelation 12 is said to be clothed with the Sun. Of course the church must be commanded to wear the Sun, but just not in so many direct obvious words. You have to look for it and figure it out. You have to make an association that starts by understanding who the spiritual Sun is. By now I hope that you can see that the spiritual Sun is Jesus Christ.
Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
The Greek word translated as “put on” here means to :invest with clothing:, to “be clothed” with. Interesting, is it not? Isn’t this what we are talking about, to be clothed with the Sun? If Jesus Christ is the Sun, and we have clearly seen that He is, then the church is instructed to wear this Sun like clothing. This verse in Romans tells us to wear Jesus Christ like a garment, robe or a coat. If Jesus is the Light and the Sun, then we would be wearing the correct symbol, for the woman in Revelation 12, right? Here is another witness to this revelation:
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Again we clearly see a reference of the church being baptized into Christ. To be baptized is an immersion and the covering of the body by water. This is clearly a symbolic reference of a person wearing something. Now if that is true then according to this verse we also have “put on” Christ. Put on again means to “be clothed” with Christ. The church should be going around wearing the garment of Jesus Christ, right here, right now. Let’s look at a new verse:
1Co 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
In this verse it compares two states, one physical with the other one spiritual. The words “borne” and “bear” are the same Greek word that means to “wear”. God is telling us that we previously wore our flesh bodies, but now we have been re-clothed with a heavenly body and this of course is covered with the Sun. To me it is very obvious what God is talking about. I hope that you are beginning to see it also. Let me briefly give you an Old Testament prophecy that goes into a bit of relevant information on this topic of wearing the “Sun”.
Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
So as you read this prophecy in Daniel it should be self evident that it is talking about the church. The church is the only group that is attempting to turn anyone from their darkness into the righteousness of Jesus Christ. But, notice the terms that are used. It declares that we will “shine” with a “brightness”. The firmament is another word for the sky. The earth’s atmosphere when it is lit by the sun can be very intensely bright. This is a clear reference to the “day”. That describes someone that could be wearing the sun, doesn’t it? This chapter in Daniel is an end time prophetic message. It describes many things that are occurring right now. In context with that we see the righteous being hailed as light bearers. Jesus made several statements in regard to this also. In calling Himself the light of the world in John, He also said “ye are the light of the world”. How can the church and Jesus both be the same light? It only really makes sense if we put Christ on and wear Him around for others to see. This is a revelation of letting Jesus be seen on the outside in the visible world. Too many Christians want to keep Jesus on the inside and never let Him be seen outside of the church building. This is not what the Bible says to do. We are to wear Jesus Christ like a garment that everyone can clearly see. Here is another very relevant scripture on the subject of wearing the Sun.
Isa 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
God has clothed the church with the garment of Salvation first and then the robe of Righteousness second. Do you remember who the Sun of Righteousness was? It is Jesus Christ. So we have very clear evidence that the church is to be clothed with the Spiritual Sun of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. So the primary clothing in Bible days were not jeans and t-shirts, but were robes. So we can understand that to be clothed with the Robe of Righteousness means everyday clothing and not just a special wedding garment. The Hebrew word translated as righteousness is the exact same word found in Malachi 4:2 describing Jesus as the Sun of Righteousness. So Isaiah 61:10 describing the church is definitely related to the verse in Malachi 4:2 describing our clothing of the Sun of Righteousness. This is not an accident nor was it placed in the Bible by accident. This is God’s designed plan to reveal this information at the right time. I’ll end this blog with just one more reference since I am running pretty long.
Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
So we can see another word association being made. This time the church is told to put on the armor of light. Since it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where we get our daylight from, I think it is clear that we are being told to put on the Sun. This clothing that we are commanded to put on, is described as the “armor” of light. Armor is what a soldier would wear for protection against an enemy. Body armor is common for Police and military personnel. This “light” should have the same affect for a Christian. By walking in the light you should never be in the darkness. The clear reference in this verse is to the spiritual day or night condition of our hearts. So there are many verses that instruct the church to shine and put on Christ. Here are the words of Jesus himself that are also speaking prophetically about the church at the end of the world:
Mat 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
The Words of God, from the mouth of the True and Faithful One declares the righteous to be the ones that will shine forth as the sun at the end of the world. Doesn’t that testify that the righteous church will be the ones wearing the Sun of God? It sure looks like it to me.
I have given a number of key scriptures that identify the symbolic Sun as being Jesus Christ. I have given you several other verses that either prophesy or declare the church to be clothed with this Sun. We can see this truth in many other verses in the Bible that I have not covered yet, but I will end this blog with this question for now:
What woman in the Bible is clothed with Jesus Christ?
You can certainly eliminate a lot of the 4 potential candidates for this woman. She cannot be natural Israel, she cannot be heavenly Jerusalem, she cannot even be natural Mary. Just figuring out the identity of the symbolic “Sun”, one symbol changes the meaning of the woman in chapter 12 of Revelation dramatically. This blog has introduced to the subject and yet we still have a lot to learn and figure out. Perhaps in my next blog I will talk more about the other symbols, to help you better understand this woman’s true identity. God Bless you and I pray that you have the spiritual vision to see and to understand God’s Word.
